Game Between (’. C. H. S. And Marquette Cancelled) A basketball game (scheduled to !>••! played in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Sat-, unlay night by the Centred Catholic high school .team of Fort Wayne, and) the Marquette University high school) team, of Milwaukee, has been can-i celled. Il was impossible to obtain) the Marquette University gymnasium I for Saturday night, and the coach f the Fort Whyne team did not wish to keep his players in training any longer. C C. 11. S. defeated the Marquette team in the first round of the national Catholic tourney at Loyola University, Chicago, last week, and that defeat was the first reverse suffered by the Wisconsin C.igers this season, they having won 19 straight before that time, piling up 667 [tints to their opponents’ 262. Milwaukee fans were anxious to see the Fort Wayne team in action and the game was arranged. Mr. Schwartz Wants Picture Os Champs Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Mr. Sports Editor, Decatur Daily Democrat, Dertitur, Indiana. Dear Sir: , In your column you do not give C. C. H. S. the credit due them, because you have not really thought alsmt this game. It was, a break of the game that won for Decatur, that break came when Lassus was put nt of the game, taking the pivot from the grelat scoring combination of Lassus, Romary and Eva rd. I do not know whether you saw the game or not, but you must concede that, with Lassus mt, it was a toss-of-a-o:in proposition in deciding the winner. Heads, Decatur; Tails, Fort Wayne. Heads mme up. Do not forget that after Decatur had beaten C. C. 11. S. everybody in Fort Wayne hoped that Decatur would win the Nat ion al C ham pionsh ip. Myers is to be congratulated for his steadiness in copping both the final free throws, but while Decatur was only 7 points fr m the ch!impion-hip, C. C. H. S. was twenty seconds front the State Championship—can anyone score 7 points in twenty seconds? Enclosed are 10c in stamps for which please send me a picture of the State Catholic Champions. Thanx. Yours very truly, Janies Schwartz, Jr. Illinois Champs Will Not Enter National Meet Freeport, 111., Mar. 25. — (United Press) —The local high school team, champions ofc Illinois, has declined an i invitation to participate in the National i Interscholastic tournament at Chicago. New Forward Pass Rule Not To Be Revoked Now New York. Mar. 25.—Criticism directed a’ the new rule restricting the use oi tile lot want pass will not result in a reconsideration of the rule for at least a year, according to E. K. Hale, chairman of the rules conimitThe committee feels that it was a constructive ruling adopted with the intention of improving the game, and that any such changes should be given the benefit of a test. It has happened several times that changes in the rules have been revoked after they have been tested for a season, as was the case in the kickoff rule last year, ami if the rule permitting the quarterback only or.e incompleted pass without a penalty slows up the game, it may be scra't'.ed off the books next winter. The committee feels also, it is said, that as many coaches will be found endorsing the rule as are being quoted against it. The criticism that it was a reactionary measure or aimed at forward - passing systems like Notre Dame, Dartmouth. Tulane or Washington was declared to be beside the point. The suggestion made by Bob Zuppke that the progressive sections of the country should draft their own rules threatens a situation similar to that resulting front the baseball resin rule. Although the rule book permits a pitcher to use resin on his hands, the American League and several minor leagues have refused to accept the rule, and they can get away with it on- a technicality. Some organizations like the Western conference, the Missouri Valley conference or the Southern conference might agree among themselves to ignore the old rule and let the quarterback call for as many passes as he wishes without being penalized and the rules committee would have to dig hard for a comeback. Only in th e case of an intersectional game could a real issue develop, and teams like most of the western conference elevens would not seek any such test cases. Tlie rules committee feels that each section of the country was represented on the committee and that, passed the rule, and that there is no ground for the complaint that the east is trying to get back an old game which the west took away with the perfec-1 tion of the open game. 1
