Jijst before hi» death he became greatly agitated and insisted upon the attendance of a Catholic confessor. The confession! made by Douglas was as follows: | “In this, my dying hour, and in the full hope that by doing «o, 1 will secure absolution from my sins. I make a tree and full contention of a deed that has weighted by mind like a death pall from the day of Its commiMfon. I am the guilty wretch who outraged :und murdered the girl Secauer near Celina, Ohio, In the anmmer of 1872. Heaven alone knows what prompted me to do the deed but at she time my brain was on fir efrom drink, and I was veritably a madman, and past the power to control my actions. The hanging of the two men, McLeod and Kimmel, was as vile a murder as was ever purpetrated. I was one of the mob that executed them. I urged them on to it, for I felt it necessary to secure my own safety. 1 now know jtml feel that in acting as I did throughout this horrible affair, I committed sins of most grievous character. I hope God will pardon me, and that the publication of I this statement will relieve the families of the men, McLeod and Kimmel, from the stigma of dishonor now resting iupon them. 1 feel that 1 have but a few more moments to live and with 1 my last breath I avow the truth of all statements herein related. ‘Thomxr Bradwell Dougla-s.” i It is said there are many yet liv- ■ ing in Mercer county who recall the , I murder of the Secauer girl and the i lynching of the two suspects, McLeod ' d and/ Kimmel. ° ™ Frederick Makes Plea For Waterway Project i Seymour, Ind., Mar. 25. — (United C Press)— A plea for support of the s proposed Great Lakes waterway ' marked the address of John E.
