ference team and do justice to the players this year. It is impossible to pick a mythical team that will please every one but the above selection satisfies me in every way. There are many in the honorable mention list who are on par with i some of the men on the first two . teams but they were not chosen due mostly to seniority of other players. The forward berths are given to Krueger, Indiana, and Spradling. I Purdue. Krueger has been one of i the most consistent forwards in the | conference. Only one man in the Big Ten has scored more field goals than Krueger and that is his running mate, Spradling. Krueger's de- . tensive play gives him the honor I over Beckner. Spradling was second high scorer in the conference and has unlimited basketball ability. There is no faster starter or harder driving forward than Spradling. Doyle, Michigan, got; she center position. His scoring record would i have been much higher had he been used in the offense more. The de- | sense made up of Doyle. Harrigan and , ,i Winston would be almost impossible • to penetrate. Harrigan. Michigan, is one of the I brightest of newcomers. He has a . wonderful amount of defensive and i offensive ability and has the right ' size for a dependable floor guard. . Winston. Indiana, is very valuable I because of his ability to get the ball r off the board and get it out of 'dangerous territory. His height makes him an indispensible center. I I would choose Winston as captain of the first team.

I FIELD GOALQ 1 By MARK M. UPP kz Another spa in is over and only Di team are left in the race for the state high school basketball championship. a—— Amonq those sixteen are a few who were doped to fall by the wayside, farther hack the line, and missing are several favorites, some of whom were even doped to win the state championship. Fur Instance, few rc t' oir thought that North Vernon. Syracuse. Aurora, Nappanee or Newcast'e would play in the finals nt Indianapdis, regardless of the fact that those teams were known to lie fairly strong. Among the lav rites who were eliminated Saturday, the Kokotn > Wild Cats fell the hardest, losing to Mirlpn. 24-9. Many fans, not the least among whom w.m Sport Onceover, of the Fort Wayne Hew: Sentinel, thought that the Kate would Win tile fate title Wo cat beside the eminent Mr. Onceover at the press table during the Berne Central qame at Fort Wayne Saturday morninq and he confided in us at that time that he believed Kokomo would win the title. • Among the favorites who have rot away their suits and will watch the state finals from the )> r o hero are Muncie, Vincennes, the two Gary teams, South Bend, Wa chington, Bloomingt n. Sohlbyvllle. Rushville, Richmond and Kokomo. Martin: ville h till in the race and WE RE STILL PICKING MARTINSVILLE. We sat in the nress box with Rip Offs, of the Bluffton News, during the Blc.ffton-Kendallville game at Fort Wayne Saturday morning. Needless to say. Rippy was greatly delighted when his Tigers came through with a victory. Mark M. Helps Us. Wo sat at the special Evening N -ws telephone at the score bench and hod Mark M. Upp. c.f the Decatur Democrat, one one side of us* Mark M. helped us jam the play-by-play reports over th* telephone to the crowd if funs which we found afier arriving hick n Bluffton had packed the inside of the Nev office and had swarmed on the sidewalk without. Mark M. said he was "sure for Bluffton to win," if Berne lost to the Centrals and since Berne did, Mark M.'s with us and we’ve erased those black marks against him on our sports ledger.—Rip Offs, Bluffton News. Gosh! We wonder how many black marks he had againsbus. We haven't kept count of ah the mean tilings he eaid about us. In fact, they a’l went in at one ear and out at the other. In the Berne-Central name Saturday, the Fighting Five lacked that second half spurt that won ro many ball games for them during the past season. Berne smarted strong and the Blre- clad eagers looked good during the first eight minutes, and then something seemed to happen. Had the Fighting Five played as good a game against Central as it did against Decatur in the sectional here, we're sure the score would have been different. But then, Berne sent a team to the regional meet, and that, alone, is an honor to be cherished. Berne may have another winning team next year or it may be several years before the town is represented by formidable quintet, so the Fighting Five of 1925-26 should, and we believe it will, be remembered for years to come. "We'll have tn hand it to Marl: M. Upp. of Decatur. After his Yellow I Jackets went down, lie d d not give up, but continues his column liar ing Berne to win. That’s being a good sport, Mark.”—Out of B und-’. Bluffton Banner. We are in receipt of a letter from George I'urrell. author of Casual Comment in the Vincennes Sun. asking us for a brick, any kind or size, just so it is a hard-faced, building brick. George is going to collect a brick from each city and large town in the state tn have them laid in the front wall of the new gymnasium al Vincennes. A bronze p ate will lie atta lied to each brick and on the plate will lie engraved the name of the town from which it came and the name of the ender. Our brick will be on the way soon, George. After about two dozen of these bricks have been delivered at the Sun office, we imagine George will make himself scarce whenever he sees the mail man coming. George has a good idea, but it sure is imposing on the mail man's good nature. Well, the Commodores now know what is ahead of them, at least they have a fair idea, as the schedule for the national tourney ha- been drawn. The loca’s meet Champion \cademy, Prairie Ihi Chein. Wisconsin, in the I ist game of the first r mid. Th- game will lie played on Friday. After that, if successful, the Cominodovs will meet the winner of the game between St. Xavier’s high of Cincinnati, and Rosary* high of Detroit. Michigan. II S., of Fort Wayne, meets the strong Marquette Academy team of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the first round. If C. C. wins that game, it will play the winner of the game botwe n Calvert Hall. Baltimore. Md.. and St. Patrick's high of lowa City. I iwa Providing the Commodores and (’. C 11. S. win their first two games, they will meet each other in the third round. And then there wi. lie a battle royal. Everybody is urged to turn out to the pep session at noon tomorrow to help give the Commodores a real send off. The town is back of them, so let's tell them about it. The following con'.ribirtion appeared in Sport Onceover’s column in tli< News-Sentinel, Saturday: "Dear Onceover: ”I.i reading 'Field Goals’ in the Decatur Democrat of Monday eighth, we I ■aw where they lay claim t : the state championsh'p of the Catholic schoolu | Their proof is having received their invitation- to the national tournament 1 first. Maybe they received their mail by aeroplane, if the aviator could see the town We can't see how they can claim such a title. “They have a goed team. Yes, but Central Catholic has a better one. In comparing the players we can see only one firm Decatur wh?Van show any comparison. Carl Gass, the stellar backguard, but he alone cannot step the famous trio, Evard. R .smary and Lassus. These three players could wither most any defense put before them. Captain Evard has a very fine personality, a good character, is a go id sportsmm and also Is one of the coolest and most consistent players the writers have ever seen. “Now, ‘Field Goa’ .' we are not from C. C. but are backers cf good basketball teams, such as C. C. and Central of Fort Wayne. “Central Catholic defeated Decatur bykhree points and Decatur detente i Central Catholic two p ints on their own respective floors. On a neutral floor Central Catholic can defeat Decatur 10-12 points. “The Central Catholic team is small and Decatur has big beefy boy -, bu.t here’s to ‘Field Goals’—a moral—Not quantity, lint quality. Signed: M. A SHROYER, C. B SQUIRES. WALT FIS' HER. ROBERT JOHN M'KERING, JAMES SCHWARTZ. The writers in the above contribution sure use good logic. After saying that C. C. beat the Commodores at Fort Wayne by a threepoint margin and the Commodores beat C. C. at Decatur by a twopoint margin, they say that C. C. could beat the Commodores on a neutral floor by 10 or 12 points. Yeh! two plus two equals ten—nit. iFurthermore, it was due to a misunderstanding on the part of Captain Tubby Gass regarding the amount of time remaining to be played that prevented the Commodores from beating (!. C. by a margin of eight points or more, here. Tubby thought there was only two minuter left to play when the Commadores were leading eight prints and he directed hit team to stall. But there was five minutes deft and C. C. close dup the gap. On to Chicago, Commodores, and uphold the reputation of the good oi l Hoosier state. i

I I Who could have foretold in 1913. when the aver- I age price of anthracite.coa! was $8 per ton. that it I would advance to $18.13 in 1925? 1 I • Yet that is exactly what happened. No less an I I authority tlian the United States Department of i I Labor furnishes the statistics. I According to the report of this department, on Jan. 15. 1913. the average retail price of anthracite stove coal per ton of 2.W0 pounds in Chicago was 1 JUX), and on Nov. 15. 1925, *the latest date for which statistics haw been compiled i it was $18.13 ! per ton. I What about gasoline prices? On Jan. 15, 1913, the Chicago tank wagon price of Standard Oil Company (Indiana gasoline was $ 145 per gallon. /X ton of anthracite coal on that day would have bought 55.17 gallons of gasoline. On Nov. 15. 1925. the Chicago tank wagon price of Standard Oil Company (Indiana; gasoline was $.16 per gallon. A ton of anthracite coal on that day would have bought 113.31 gallons of gasoline — 105 c I, more than in 1913. In terms of percentage, the price of anthracite coal increases! 126*'} in twelve years; the price of gasoline only 10.3%. These figures are not intended to show that the ; price of anthracite coal is high but to emphasize the fact that the price of gasoline is low. The success of the Standard Oil Company (Indiana* in holding down the price of gasoline is the more remarkable when it is considered that the cost of factors entering into the manufacture of gasoline have advanced greatly—some important items as much as 137%. How then you ask has this been accomplished? In a word, by advanced refining methods growing out of tremendous investments of time and money in research. The benefits accruing have been passed on to the consumer of gasoline. The Standard Oil Company (Indiana) is proud of its record; the management is proud of the organization, which has enabled it to achieve such a record. ; Everyone of the 29,000 employes is imbued with but a single purpose —to do their part toward furnishing you with an unfailing supply of gasoline and other petroleum products when and where you want them at the most reasonable price possible. With such a spirit of enthusiasm to rely upon, the management faces the future with confidence. No one can foretell what new problems may arise. There are many hazards and risks in the oil industry. No one can accurately predict what the price of gasoline wHI be. But one prophecy can be made with certainty. The Standard Oil Company (Indiana 1 will continue to supply gasoline at a price which will reflect only tlie cost of crude oil, manufacturing, and distribu tion, plus a small and reasonable profit.
