- A 1 PETROLEUM WINS BERNE TOURNEY Wells County Quintet Defeats Bowser, Os Fori Wayne, In Finals Upsetting all "dope” and playing two overtime games, the Petroleum team from Wells county won the independent basketball tournament at Berne last Thursday, Friday and Saturday, defeating the ntrong Bowser team, of Fort Wayne, in the final game Saturday night, 32-30. The final game was hard (ought and exciting throughout. Petroleum eliminated the Anthony Wayne institute team of Fort Wayne Saturday morning, in an overtime 'game, and then defeated the PattersonFletcher team, also of Fort Wayne, in |an overtime contest In the semi-finals. In the final game, the score was tied at 10-all in the first half and then Petroleum took the lead of 19-12 at the end of the half. Sat -day at the Civil Hall. 14 to 17 to win the Junior Invitational tournament. The game was fast and very close throughout. The first half was a continual battle, the score never varying more than three points. The score at the end of the opening reel was 9 to 9. Bluffton swept the Kokomo squad off their feet at the beginning of the second period, amassing a three-point lead which the Kats were unable to overcbme. All of the members of the Bluffton and Kokomo squads played a good game. Gladcaster was the big seorpr for Bluffton, while Armstrong took the same honors for Kokomo.
