Some one has asked us who the .oldest citizen, native of Decatur is, and we can't answer it. can you? By the way, we have received so many different answers to the prob’lcm about emptying that tank of ♦water, one mile square and one mile high, that we have decided to find out if we can the real answer by the •man from whom we first got the < querry. ~ •«» Mr. Robinson is now a candidate ’ for the republican nomination for ’ United States senator, a statement of fact which will perhaps not surprise' many. His petition was duly filed at ’ the secretary of state’s office yester- ’ day. And what ever became of the cam- ’ palgn for day light saving time in Decatur? We have not had an 1 answer to our'proposition that it was confusing and annoying. The change should certainly not be made unless J there is an explanation as to the 1 benefits which will sell the commun- 1 X| itv and the council. 1 We congratulate Judge Merryman ** on having resided in Decatur half a 1 century and we hope he makes good ’ on his declaration of remaining that ' v much longer. We need men like him who stand for the highest ideals of 1 life, who fight their way over ob- 1 stacles, who lead a clean and wholesome and helpful life, who believe in * th c community’ and boost and who 1 stand for those things of greatest * benefit to the greatest number. ■ ✓ Only one man in ten succeeds in « business and thc average retail store , continues in existence less than eight ! I Vears. And a peculiar thing about it J 'is that every one of the successful is I I an advertiser. That ought to be all i the proof needed. If you will look after the details ot buying carefully, ( training your clerks to be courteous, , trim your windows regularly and advertise consistently, you can change that average around the other way. Margie Crflmp down in Columbus, ’lndiana, is asking a divorce for the •sixth time and Charley Crump lias been the defendant each time. Looks as thought they like the honeymoon experience. Perhaps they never thought of just taking vacations for to few weeks and thus saving the cx'potwe.a of so many matrimonial campaigns. The last time they were 'married they made the wedding trip in an airplane. r Now here’s another one. Maud Whltlach over at Kokomo was grant•ed a divorce this week because her husband forced her to mov e once a year. The couple had been married twenty-six years and according to the evidence of thc tired woman they had moved just that many times. •When be suggested doing so again instead of cleaning house, Mrs. Whitlach decided to just move out for good. Now its Jason’s move, but he must play it alone. Twenty-four of the ninety six member!) of the United States senate have the influenza and that fact is stopping the business of the law making studio. However, they did manage to squeeze Through the tax bill, designed to save several hundred million dollars and most important for the rich citizens, which includes such I

Seriously we hope they all recover without the ill effects so common with this dreaded disease. The “Your Health” column now being conducted in thc Dally Democrat should prove of interest to many ot our readers. It is conducted by the Adams County Medical Society and the State Medical Association which makes it dependable. There is back of this feature nothing but-a desire to render a service to the people of the community. By the way, did you read the one last evening relating to the ill effects of reducing? Its worth your time. ' Any way we will have to give •credit to tlje man who thought of fathering up all the stray dogs in the •state and selling them to the medical 'department of Indiana University. Thats a new game and it looks as (though it could be worked without any graft. In every town and city There are a lot ot useless curs that might be turned over for experimental Wvork, thus at least proving of some benefit. Just think how that would •save the ower beds and the gardens this spring. Joe Kealing, an Indianapolis political boss interviewed President Coolidge yesterday and talked right up to him. pert and boldly, and told him 'that Watson and Robinson voted just to suit the people of Indiana when •they opposed the administration on the World Court bill, but so far as teported “Silent Cal" didn’t bubble over with enthusiasm. Perhaps these ward “heelers” are right and perhaps not. The people of Indiana are in favor of measures w-hich will prevent war or make it more difficult to start a scrap and they may decide to let the world iutow it in the coming election. They will if the question is made an issuue and put to them in a fair manner. \ 54S9SK548SSSSSSBBKKS 3 B 54 TWENTY YEARS AGO TODAY B 54 K 5? THE WAY OF A WOMAN
The way of a woman is queer As has often been stated by men. Since the dark ages were, man has marveled at her, And he'll frequently marvel again. Take the wonderful woman you know And I'l venture this statement is true, In health or in pain- she will worry her brain Over things which are trifles to-you. She was down in a hospital bed Under orders to fret not or fume, “Keep away every shock,” said the kindly old Doc, "Don’t let worry get into her room.” So w e talked of the happiest things.. Kept telling her things that were all right, Till I ventured to say, as I sat there one day That a friend had stayed with us all night. I

Decatur, Indiana. I Dear Friend John: As the Governor of North Carolina said to the Governor of South Carolina. “It has been a king time between drinks.” My promise to write you a letter from California has been put off in the same fashion, The only excuse I can offer is that when I was in the mood or had the -time 1 did not have the you know I cannot punish a typewriter myself. Just now I have been offered the services of a stenographer and shall endeavor to give you some of the high lights' 1 have/seen since landing here. First of all, the.automobile trips out of Los Angeles are wonderful.' I believe a person could live here for a lifetime and tflke a different trip every week-end. You can take your {choice at any time as the ocean, motm, tains, fertile valleys and desert are all within a few hours ride of the city. rL’p to date we have covered over 2,000 miles and no trip over 150 miles from . Izis Angeles. Just today we left at' 2 p. ni. and covered 100 miles before (lark including, several stops at points |of interest and scenic view points. We .made Topangu Canyon. Santa Susana I'l’ass and San Fernando Valley. i One of the best entertainments I jhave stgen while here was the horse 1 show last week at the Ambassador Hotel. You know this is rty failing and I must say I never saw better show Jiorses with as anywhere. '(This annual event is the hobby of the ILos Angeles millionaire colony und they certainly put on a real show. Incidentally, at this show 1 had the pleasure of meeting Noah Beery, the movie ‘star and had a long chat with him. 1 He is a mighty fine fellow and seems (pleased to meet any of his relatives, Ino matter how far removed. » Tomorrow, thc annual picnics of the (Bluffton and Fort Wayne people will be held at Westlake Park. This is not a joint picnic, but it just so happens Yhat both are holding their annual af- ’ fair at the same time and same place. I expect to be there with bells on and meet a lot of folks from back home. * Last week 1 had my first ride on the Old Pacific. Mrs. Beery, Marie, Martha and I went to Catalina. Took in the glass bottom boat ride and saw a million fish of all sizes. I was not i very strong for .the boat ride but it ttlrnod out to be O. K and I arn 1 mighty glad I took it. If 1 attempted to write about every thing I have seen so far 1 would have tto put it in book form and not being u great hand at letter writing I think i- I will save the balance until I gel s home and can tell you about it. ?
