] WHY IT WILL PAY YOU TO TRADE IN DECATUR The prosperity, individually and collectively of every co aimunity is expressed in the cold calculation of dollars and cents that register in the local banking houses. And so Decatur Banks are a correct barometer of the financial condition and the prosperity of Decatur. Dollars drawn from the vaults of our banking institutions, if spent in Decatur, will find their way right I,ack to where they come from. Yoa’ve. all heard the story of how one lone ten dollar bill put into circula'lon cancelled several debts and returned to the pocket of the original spender —a man owed bis neighbor ten dolz lars. He paid him. The neighbor owed the Giocer $lO so he took the same money that had been paid him ami paid the grocer. The Grocer likewise cancelled his obligation with the hardware man for ten dollars and the hardware man immediately paid his garage man, who had the first man working for him. paid his salary with the same ten plus other tens, so five accounts had been cancelled toyiiing SSO, and all with one little ten spot. And so it goes with every other dollar that is spent in Decatur. It goes ' right to work to enrich you and your neighbors. It conies back —it’s bound to eventually get around io you again if you keep it here So every dollar in Decatur banks has a personal interest for you. Because as long as those dollars ale deposited and re-deposited in Decatur there is every opportunity in the world lor you to eventually put them into your own personal account. So you see tnat it is not ail on entirely a question of patronizing Decatur firms. It comes right down to your own personal interests and your interests are inseparably linked witli the interests of every other man, woman and business firm in Decatur. It is “up to you" to consider eventually your own personal interests in this question of Buying in Decatur. No matter what your reason »r excuse for buying this or that ai tide outside of Decatur might be. a far better reason for buying it here can readily be found. Decatur is YOl T R city. And you can take away from its success, thereby reducing your own prosperity, or you can aid materially your city and yourself if you will always spend your dollars in Decatur. Every dollar you spend either helps to make or mar the business success of Decatur* It either adds or subtracts from the financial strength of oar banks as well as of our business firms. And when you take away from the prosperity of a community you tak ( > away from your own prosperity ' o: chance of more prosperity at the same time. So you see this matter of buying in Decatur all revolves right back to self interest. Next week we are going to tell you something about your neighbors—its not scandal—neither is it gossip, but after you read it we want you to gossip to your neighbor about it. The title of this next article is “They." Watch for it on this page of next week’s Decatur Daily Democrat. o 1 POPULATION OF SHANGHAI Shanghai.
