| -—| - FIELD GOALS I * BY MARK M. UPP Someone started n rumor yesterday that <’. (’. 11. S. of Fort Wayne had mneelled the game with the CalhoUe High f'ommodoroi hero February 19. The gaiiiu lias not lieen cancelled and plans are being made to accomodate a capacity crowd that night. The pasteboards will go on sale at tho Eats mid Pimples restaurants on February 15. "Coach Kennedy must have said something to his men between halves, for they came hack and showed the crowd that the name of Yellow Jackets was not misplaced. Five Yellow Jackets be gan to buir all over the floor and they threatened to sting the Van Wert boys- Welker and Strickler each made two fielders for Decatur, and Edwards scored a pot shot for Van Wert. The score at three-quarter period was 18 to 15 for Van Wert. Things began to look pretty bad in the fourth period when Zwick made a short toss that made the count 18 to 17.” — , Van Wert Times. After reprinting our remarks about the plans for remodeling the Bluffton gym. Rip Offs of the Bluffton News, says: "Mark M never is satisfied—falls to give its proper credit when we do make things better. We recall that in our high school basketball days De. atur had a floor in an old building which bad three or four columns dawn one side of the court, but several feet inside the boundary lines. Tho Yellow Jackets’ coach in those days had to instruct the players in Mde-and-go-Aeek as well as in the art if placing basketball. True enough. Decani)' has a bettor floor now than Bluffton has. but just wait until we got the community building. That should silence Mark M. for life." Tho Portland panthers defeated the Winchester Yellow Jackets at Win'hosier Friday night. 37-35. and then took a 32-17 walloping from Renville on the Portland floor on Saturday night. The Panthers must have been still panting from tho Winchester game. The Portland Commercial-Review states that several members of the Panther squad have been breaking training rules, such as smoking, and earousing around outside of training hours. | A year ago the Yellow Jackets had a record of eight straight and the Commodores had run their string of victories to twelve straight. And both were still astraightin’. St. Marys high school of Huntington wil bring a strong team to Decatur Friday night to battle the Commodores. It is the strongest team in the history of the Huntington Catholic high school. St. Marys high defeated Cathedral of Indianapolis twice this year. The game here Friday night ought to : be a thriller. The Yellow Jackets will have plenty of trouble at Portland with the Panthers Friday night. Although the Panthers have had an on and off season so far. there is a lot of power on the team when it is bitting on all five. And who knows, the Jay county lads may be in tune Friday night.
