Dope is flying thick ;.n<l List on this county eighth grade basketball tourney to he held here next Saturday. Nearly every boy has a copy of the schedule in his pocket and is confident Ids thara will win the championship “Dear Mark M. Upp: Here's some dope on the eighth grade tourney. French to beat Wabash: Decatur to beat Berne; Kirkland to beat Preble, Linn Crove to beat Geneva: Monroe to beat Monroe twp.; Monmouth to beat Washington: Decatur Catholic to beat French: Decatur to beat Kirkland: Linn Grove to beat Monroe; Decatur Catholic to beat Monmouth: Decatur to beat Linn Grove: Decatur Catholic to beat Decatur public schools in the finals in a hard fought game. Watch tne dark horses: Monmouth, French and Berne. The county champion Kirkland team will cause little trouble as the entire team graduated last spring, the present team being composed of players who lack the size of several of the champions. Maybe I’m wrong. OSWALD SURSHOT.” Will Wynn failed In make an appearance in the IP run Witness Monday. The advertising business was pretty good so we suppose his choice remark < were crowded out. However. ' Winnie" did his stuff in the Herne Review He said a lot of nice things about the Yellow Jackets trying to help us forget about that defeat Friday night, we suppose. “Your much improved ‘Yellow Jackets,' Mark M. Upp. gave us just what we asked for, a real hair riser. “We're calling the Yellow Jackets Mark’s team because we admire the loyal support he's been giving a losing team, support is what won many a game Mark, so don’t become disheartened. We're with you as long as you're not playing the ‘Fighting Five.’ Beat Carrett, 'cause they're our next foe' after the Hartford tussle Friday night. "We missed our prediction of a ten point victory Friday night but we were really surprised at the much improved style of play by the Yellow Jackets. “That man Strickler plays as though he’d like to have a berth on the all-sectional team this year and what’s more it appears as though he’s going to get it. His sensational basket shooting was all that kept the Yellow Jackets in the running. “The 'Fighting Five’ was decidedly off form, none of the team being able to hit the basket consistently but they were stacked up against a real team and their victory was well earned.” —"Winnie.” This Marion high school team is composed of long, lanky boys. Everybody says so. Here’s the way W. F. F,ox, Jr., describes the team in the Indianapolis News: "Don't get the idea that this man Murphy looks like Mutt with four little Jeffs, either.. True enough, Murphy is the only one who has to sit down to get his head wet when taking a shower hath but the Messrs. Robert and Everett Chapman, ot 423 Highland avenue, Marion, lnd., could eat off' the .nantle any day and still look a cup of coifee in the face without lifting it down. Glenn Overman, who hangs his hat on a dining room chair at 112 South G street, and Carl Kilgore, who cuts the grass in the summertime at 724 West Sixth, do not have to have a barber put a board across the arms of ihe chair when they get their beads manicured.” C. C. H. S., of Fort Wayne, won three games in four days over the week-end, beating Cathedral at Indianapolis, Anderson Catholic at Anderson, and Celina, Ohio Catholic at Celina. But there’s nothing spectacular about that. The Cathedral quintet is the best one of the lot and the Commodores walloped the Capital City quintet here recently, 45-28. The Fort Wayne boys will be up against a different proposition when they take the floor against the Commodores at Library Hall, Fort Wayne, Friday night. ' Wow! the Scarlet and Gray team of Van Wert lilgti school swamped York high school, 46-23 at Van Wert Saturday night. IBooks like the Yellow Jackets would have plenty lo do to stop the Buckeyes' offense Saturday night. „ The Rluffton News has offered a rolling pin as a trophy tor Ihe champion girls' basketball team of Wells county. Roll ’em, girls, roll ’em. Cqntribs! Contribs! Send ’em to Mark M. Upp. Bill Bryan, former Kirkland township basketball star, together with his teammates at Manchester College, appeared in black and white in the Indianapolis News yesterday. The Mews published a six column picture of the undefeated Manchester team. Bill is holding down the regular floor guard I job on the team. Garrett is coming to Decatur Friday night to meet the Yellow 1 Jackets with no mean record for the season. The visitors have de- ■ seated Fort Wayne South Side at Fort Wayne, Auburn, Kendaliville , and several other strong teams. A victory over them will go a long way to boosting the standing of the Yellow Jackets. s Today’s question and answer: Q— Player catches bast with two hands, dribbles with one hand and each hand alternately, catches ball with two iiands at end of dribble and passes; is this a violation. A—No. * Who’s going to win the state championship? Frankfort fans are “frank” t about It and say they will: Huntington is “hunting" away to do it; South t Bend is “bending” every effort to win it; BlufTton is only “tluff-ing” about I it; Eaton is "eat-ln” a lot so it will be equal to the task; Hartford City is 1 taking “heart”; Washington is “washing" out their suits in preparation to Intake a uice showing; Ooodland looks “good"; Advance is "advancing”: s El wood "would" if they cotrid; but nobody knows who will.
