Life Is Spared W ' i __ William Cavalier. 17, must spend the remainder ot his life in prison for the murder ot his grandmother. He was previously sentenced to die in the electric chair in Pennsylvania. IhR his sentence was commutated yesterday to life imprisonment. The youth, whose home is in Harrisburg. Pa., was found guilty of kiting his grandmother for 850. He worked in a piano factory at Bluffton, Indiana, for a few months prior to the time he killed his grandmother.

Snow Plow System On Northern Roads Planned By Michigan Lansing, Mich., Jan. 27. — (United Press) — Experiments to determine practicability of winter touring In snow-isolated districts of northern Michigan arc to be made by the state highway.department this winter. | While the state has penetrated the > cut-over country of the north with a net-work ot hard roads which give !every settlor easy access to centers of population eight months of the year, no i^tempt'has ever been made to clear the huge drifts of snow which block the roads during the winter. The highway department is making plans for the purchase of large rotary plows, which, officials believe, will be capable of cutting the drifts and making automobile travel from Iketroit and Chicago Ho the Strait* of Mackinac possible throughout the year. It is planned to clear four principal north and south highways to their northern teFminus at the Straits this year and to extend the program next { year If the experiment is successful. This will involve plowing of 625 miles of road north of the "snow line.” Cost of snow removal in this territory is estimated at >IOO a mile annually. o— ■ — Injuries Prove Fatal Noblesville, Ind., Jan. 28.—(United Press)—The body of Rev Walter Hlnke was to be returned today to his former home in Battle Creek, Mich.
