Cok-ge Basketball Teams Preparing To Meet Real Foe. Exams. By Arthur N. Suverkrup (PnHM Press Staff Correspondent 1 Indianapolis, Jan. 21. indlu'na college basketbal teams this week were preparing to meet the foe that has caused more defeats in this state than any other squad examination!. Outside of qqnference activities it is going to be a lean week for the fans who follow the cavortings of the athletes of the hardwood. Few games are to be played and the majority of those that will be played will involve little championship debate. Manchester continues to lead the flock as the only undefeated squad in the state, although Butler fans, and others are contending that the record of the boys from Wabash county was gained largely through luck. Be that as it may. Manchester must be given credit. Any team that can have enough luck to defeat Franklin and Bt|tler is good. Such luck soon becomes tradition and then ceases to be luck. Purdue apparently has the edge on Its old time rival. Indiana, in conference games played thus far, but this week wil settle the dispute temporarily at least. Notre Dame, after its defeat at the hands of Frankiin. succeeded in winning two games from out-state competitors. The Irish are going to make some of these other Indiana quintets step along before the season comes to a close or a basketball championship will be found perched on the towers of the South Bend school. Wabash apparently is deep in the mire with little chance of recovering. With two really great forwards, Benny DeVol and Red Robinson, Vaughn has been unable to find three other players capable of keeping the pace. Already the Little Giants are centering their hopes on the season next year, when some really sensational material will be available. Franklin with Vandiver going in old time form —a living example to dispute the time worn adage “they don’t come back” —has snapped into action and threatens to add more laurels to the already weighted crown on Griz Wagner’s brow. Butler has stepped into a position where it has a valid claim to the state championship—at least the claim is|
valid at ihls time. Page has another bunch of boy who don’t know the meaning of the word "defeat”—at least they never realize,! much to the displeasure of opponents, | that they have been doped to lose. Ini other words. Bqtlar boasts of that valuable asset known in sporting circles as the "comeback." , . .. ■—o Noire Dame Wallops Wabash Little Giants Crawfordsville, Ind., Jan. 21.- -(United Press) Notre Dame's fighting basketbull team left Crawfordsville today with the scalp of the Little Giants tucked safely away after a 41 to 29 victory last night. Trailing at the half, 25 Io 14. the Wabash outfit made a determined effort to win. but two rallies were halted By the Irish.
