Decatur Holds Edge Decatur and Bluffton broke even in I fl,, other two games of the evening, living the locals two victories out of Ijii-pe contests. The Central school pjghth grade quintet won its eighth itraight victory when It defeated the I Bluffton graders in a hotly contested Lame, 18-17, and the Bluffton Seconds trounced the Yellow Jacket Reserves. 3619. The game between the Tigers and the Yellow Jackets was one of the cleanest games ever played between t »o schools. Ford Griffith, of Auburn, officiated and his work pleased the large crowd and players. Tie kept the gam p clean, but did no,t slow it up. Although the floor received its annual dressing of oil about a week ago. it had been worked down and was not slippery enough to interferer with the fast game. The Yellow Jackets had not been on the floor since school was dismissed for the vacation on December 18, having practiced in the old gym since then. Yellow Jackets Score First The Yellow Jackets scored first when Strickler sank a field goal and Captain Moser made good on a free throw. The Tigers came right back and forged ahead. 5-3. and then 7-5. The Yellow Jackets tied the count at 7 all and then forged ahead. 8-7. Bluffton then took the lead. 9-S, but the loca!» made the count stand, 10-9 in their favor and kept the lead from then on. The Yellow Jackets were leading, 1712 at the end of the halt. The locals sank two field goals in short order at the start of the final period and Bluffton took time out. When play was resumed, the Tigers icored a field goal, their only one in the second half, when Frauhiger. who had substituted for Swigart, dropped in a short shot. The Yellow Jackets then started on a scoring spree which gave them a lead of 32-16, and then 34-17, a two-to-one advantage. With about five minutes left to play, (loach Kennedy sent in three substitutes. Dierkes. Krick and Magley. During the remainder of the game, the Tigers scored five free throws and Magley counted twice from the foul line for Decatur. Locals Control Tip-off Strickler, with nine field goals, was h:gh point man of the game. The scoring ace of the locals played center last night and controlled the tip-off on nearly every play at center. This was an advantage that the locals have not had in any other game this season. Bebout and Zwick teamed together at forward in nice style and Reynolds and Captain Moser put up a strong defense at guard. “Bud" Magley, who playe dfloor guard in the second team game, made his first appearance on the varsity when he replaced Reynolds during the last five minutes last night and he made good. Gerber starred in the Bluffton line-up. The Tiger captain had a streak ol tough hick when three personal fouls ’ere called on him in the first half The fouls, although committed, were | Pot intentional. The fourth personal ’as called on him about the middle °f the second half. Swigart also play a nice game for the visitors. The Yellow Jackets will go to C’olumbia City Friday night and on Saturdi,y night, they will play a return Kame at Bluffton. Many Decatur fans are planning to see the game at Bluff 'op- The Yellow Jackets seconds ami the Central school grade team will Play in Bluffton Saturday night, also.
