WHY IT WILL PAY YOU TO TRADE IN DECATUR Primarily the great quest of mankind. in common with all animals is for subsistence. The bread and butler problem is the first one to decide, and net the least important one. Os course healthy ambition reaches out lor more than a mere subsistence. Seeing others possessing the comfort ( and even luxuries, we know they are obtainable, and with laudable enterprise, we enlarge our goal and hitch our wagon to a star. People of normal nerve and enterprise go whore they can make their living and where they hope to acquire comfort and luxury. Vast and almost limitless expanses of Buffalo grass, traversed by muddy strrams and inhabited by coyottes and prairie dogs, gave no promise of luxury, not even of bread and butter. There was in the early days of the West, no promise or prophecy in the plains, of the wealth and comfort that abound, after half a century of perseverenco and industry. By the process of the survival of the fittest, weaker ones and the less brave and enterprising were weeded out. and the strong, and the stalwart and substantial stayed. More of the same kind joined „ them from time to time for "Birds of a feather flock together" and so in Decatur tlie men of business ability and courage seeing a live and flourishing community here, were tempted to cast their lot with them and taka 1 hand in building up and improving, in extending trade and retraining it by the honorable inducements of fair dealing and business integrity. As the long furrows revealed the black and productive soil the lure of the land called many ambitious and thrifty men to the soil, so did the lively and extended trade of the city, attract far seeing and able business men who joined in the efforts to extend the business of the so Decatur has grown and expanded. As a natural result of friendly but eager competition for business, the merchants of Decatur have studied carefully th" demands people of this part of the state, have accumulated large stocks of goods suitable to the demands and have offered them at prices that defy competition- It can truthfully be said that, nowhere in the country can stocks of goods be found that offer better advantages to the purchaser in this vicinity than the merchants of Decatur, have provided to meet the requirements of their trade- They are prepared to meet every demand with the goods best suited to the trade and most popular w!|h the people here, and they are' offering them at. prices that are very attractive. But its not only that you get the present value for your money, yon help also in the BUILDING OF A COMMUNITY. Your money spent here will help make Decatur a Bigger and Better City, a city in which you can take ever more pride and in which youY children will enjffy greater advantages. So it behooves all of U 3 to assist in the upbuilding of the city and county. Perhaps some one may say: “I have no children." This iR no argument. You know that we are trying to help our county and our city. All of the children are my children God bless them! They are children and they must have a good time. Childhood demands amusement and should have it. The community should despise any man who spends his life amongst them and does nothing fcr the children. Is there any greater honor than to have these dear girls and boys call you "friend?'’ Let Decatur and Adams county be known as the city and county that loves Boys and Girls. The real community builder is for his community in all things, first, last and all the time. He co-operates wih his fellow citizens Next week we will tell you something about cooperation- After you read it, ask yourself IF YOU COOPERATE.
