“Bill’s” Auto Balks And He Hoofs It In, Arriving At 4 A. M. W. A. Klepper, of the Cloverleaf’ Creameries, had a tough old night an<l was crippling around today like a vet of the "four horsemen,’’ orj Red Orange* Bear*. He made a business trip to Bourbon last night, and was returning about 11 o’clock when his ear began to "sputter and fuss” about five miles this side of Fort Wayno. Thinking he could limp home, he came on, but the engine died on him at the county line. Mr. Klepper finally roused a far-1 mer and tried to call a garage, but was unsuccessful. He returned to his car and coaxed it a half mile farther, before it quit again. After trying everything he knew to do, and failing to s|op Several cars which passed him. he gritted his teeth and started on a hike for town. He arrived at 4:20 am., footsore and weary and this morning could scarcely navigate. The car was brought in this morning and found to be alright except a tube or pipe or something which had frozen up. "Bin” says he never was strong for straight walking, alone, on a cold dark night anyway. Hunters Using State Parks As Stopovers State parks went to the front today as serving another phase of Indiana life and usefulness. They are being extensively used as stopovers for a great army of hunters afield after the luscious Bob-white and timid Br'er rabbit. Reports reaching the state conservation department show that hundreds of hunters recently have stopped at the various state park hotels wuile pursuing small game in such localities, and enjoyed the comforts of these hostelries after a day of rare sport. State parks are so located that generally speaking the hunting is excellent in the nearby woods and fields. Os course it is understood that no hunting is permitted on state res-

ervations. The most noticable increase in park hotel purtonage is at Musatatuck Inn, between Vernon nnd North Veruon on State Road 26. This hotel has accommodated many hunters since the. seaspn opened. The topography of the region Is admirably suited as habitation for small wild life, nnd the supply of quail and rabbits is abundant this year, reports indicate. Many Dogs An interesting sidelight on the breeding of domestic animals in the United States Is the number of purebred animals imported for breeding purposes. Most of the livestock in this country is descended from foundation stock from foreign countries, but so favorable are conditions here for stock raising that this coiiitry now holds first position In livestock resources. During the last fiscal year, ended June 30, 1926, according to the report of the Bureau of Animal Industry, more purebred dogs were imported than any other kind of purebred domestic animal. The official figures are as follows: Dogs, 1,6661 cattle. 1,426; sheep, 840; horses, 339; swine, 21; cats, 14. Compared with the preceding year, imported purebred dogs and sheep show a considerable increase and cattie a decrease. All 6f the foregoing numbers, department officials point out, are very small in proportion to the total number of domestic animals ;in this country, which is about 200,I DVO.OUO head. The figures are small also in comparison wit hnative pure-1 bred livestock, which, though only' about 3 per cent of the total number several million head. The United states, though still acquiring small numbers of purebred breeding stock from abroad, apparently raises almost all of its finely bred domestic animals. —o *• .
