STATE HAS 13 TON UTTERS Adams County Leads All Others With 12; Blakey Litter Is Third Lafayette, Ind., Dec 2 — Eighty-three lion litters were produced by members of the Hoosier Tou Utter Club this ■year, according to announcement made l>Y W. Wilson, of Mum ie. president of the Indiana Livestock Breeders' I Association, which cooperates with the Purdue University Aflrtcultural Ex- ■ tension Department in conducting ton litter work, Gold medals will be presented to folks who produced those litters and silver or brOMe medals to folks who produced Jitters weighing 1.600 io 2.000 pounds, at the annual banquet of the livestock association which will be ' held at Purdue. Wednesday evening. I Jan. 13, 1926. during the Agriciitural I Conference. Many Heavy Litters Produced 1 Jenkins Bros.. Orleans, produced the heaviest litter in the state, a cross bred Duros-Yorkshire litter of 15 pigs that weighed 4.080 pounds at 180 days old. W. F. Parks, Richmond, took second place with a litter of 12 ptyehred Polands that weighed 3.272 pounds; John W. Blakey. Decatur, third, 11 purebred Duroes, 3,070 pounds; I-ewis C. Johnson. Polands. 2.885 pounds, and W. G. Margin, Liberty Center, fifth. 12 grade Durocs. 2,785 pounds. The S 3 litters averaged 2,314 pounds at six months. There are 110.3 pigs to the litter on the average. The av- ' erage weight of the pigs in the litters was 223.7 pounds. Sixty-six of the lit ters were purebredT 13 cross-bred and fouj- grade. Purebred- ton litters averaged 2.300. cross-bred 2,369 and grade 2,358. Purebred pigs averaged 222 pounds, cross-bred and grades 230 pounds at six months. Duroes Lead in Number of Litters With 33 litters to its credit, the Dti- ' roc breed copped just one-half of the purebred litters. Polands stand second with 29 litters, a nd Chester Whites third with five. Hampshires marked up three litters, Spotted Polands and Yorkshires two each aud Berkshires one. | Adams county topped the other counties with 12 ton litters. Wells ’county was second with nine. Then there is a slump to four ton litters to [the county of Ripley, Rush, and Sulli 'van. Carroll. Grant, Lake, St. Joseph. ’ippecanoe, and Wayne counties chalked up three each.
