There will be democratic meetings in the precincts beginning tonight. Watch the calendar and attend. You will ’enjoy them and you will thus post yourself on the issues of the campaign now in progress. The city tax raid was reduced this year •von though improvements worth thousands and thousands of dollars have been made and without a bond ssue. In other Words we are more .han paying our way and at less cost to the taxpayers. That's what you have always demanded and now that you arts getting it you should appreciate it by supporting those who gave it to you. Stick to Krick. When they tell you that this city's not a high-class moral, substantial one, Just stick your chest out and tell them they are off their base. You willtarvel far before you find a better one nnd we -blight to all bo proud of it. The democratic candidates on the city ticket are asking your sup- ; port because of service and ability ' and the present administration is asking your approval in the coming election. There will lie a lot of Surprises in the Callithumpian parade to be given here on Hallowe'en night. You will laugh and enjoy yourself for its to be a funny show ahd several hundred are now planning to take the prizes offered tor the most unique, the funniest make-ups, the best pairs, trios and groups, the down band and others. Os course you will want to see it. The judges, line of march and ; places of meeting will he announced next week. In ttye meantime get ready for the event. Over at Shabbona. Illinois, they are having a big scrap as to whether or not high school teachers, employed from nearby towns and cities, have the right to go home over Sundays and week-ends. The town has decreed that they must remain over Sunday excepting one week-end out of each month. The idea is that the community needs the social contact with those who have had opporunity of higher education and there is no doubt that as in other lines of service, the clockwatcher is not as valuable as the one who takes an interest In everv thing connected with his work. Some teachers will gladly comply but a good many will feel that their work is finished with the closing of school on Friday and that they have a light to go where they please so long as they deport themselves properly. Any way its a rather new And interesting question. The Mellon plan, indorsed by President Coolidge, is to reduce the income tax, especially for th* very rich. The tariff and other indirect taxes are not to be touched except as the present tariff commission will raiae rates upward. For a time it looked as it the common people would swallow this program. But first President Green of the A. F. of L. threw a borttb byasking some rude questions hs to why the high tariff textile industry' should be reducing wages. Should the tariff on woolens be kept at its present high point? Then on the heels of President Green's statement the Automobile Association points out that the tax on the automobile parts falls hardest not on the rich, but on the farmers, to whom the automobile is a necessity and rough use inevitable. It ought to be repealed before the super tax on big incomes
