PROSPECTS OF A COAL STRIKE ARE INCREASED 'Continued from Pag* On*) take part In the conference. John L. Lewis, president of the United Mine Workers, had demanded their participation, claiming the operators representatives on the sub-committee were not empowered to grant any concessions. Warrlner, who Is chairmen of the operators conference and Richards, president of the Philadelphia and Reading Coal and Iron Corporation refused to take part in the wage discussions. There was speculation today as to whether President Cooltdge or some one designated by the president, would step in as mediator and avert the threatened strike or suspension in the anthracite fields. Hope was expressed by the operators that some intervention would take place, although Lewis has refused arbitration. — o — MARKLE—The largest load of torn ever delivered here was hauled by Wallace Meaton.
