DECATUR-WSYNE BUS IS PROPOSED Frank C. Bowers Seeks Perinisison To Operate Line Between Cities Word lias been received here from the Pupllc Service Commission, at liicllatiapolix. that tho hearing on the petition of Frank C Bowers to operate a bus line front Decatur to Fort Wayne under the nfncty-day property btta line law, would be held in Indianapolis, July 27. The hearing will determine whether Mr. Bowers will ho permitted to operate a bus line hot wen here and Fort Wayne. If ho receives the authority of the Commission he will begin operating a line at once. Certain stringent rultt- have been adopted by the Commission and several petitions have ben rejected, recently. since the laws became effective. Many petitions have been filed for permission to operate lines and. according to a dispatch, the dockets uro in a crowded condition. Grants and refusals are based on whether or not there is already adequate service of common carriers between the points in tiie petition. The hearing of Mr. Bowers will be held on tb.e morning of July 27 . —o__ .—.— Miners And Police Clash In England Today London. July 16—The first clash between.polic • and miners in connection with the English coal crisis occurred today. z Five thousand miners, engaged An a local strike, surrounded at dawn the Welsh colliery in Glynneath, G-lamorganshire. where seven hundred miners persisted in remaining at work. When the strikers refused to disperse. 100 police were summoned and clashed them. Sixteen strikers were injured , Thereafter the working miners decided to lay down their tools, so the colliery now is at a standstill. There is not yet any national strike in the British Isles, -and the Welsh colliery strike was declared to be purely a local disturbance. Commercial Aviation Takes Hold In Sweden Washington, July 16 — (United Press.) — Commercial aviation has taken a definite hold in Sweden, according to advices received by the Department of Commerce. Several Swedish companies are active in promoting the development of air routes and considerable public interest is focused on this means of travel. A large company is reported to have been formed recently with German and Swiss capital for the purpose of amalgamating ail the air transport lines into one network managed and operated under one organization. Maceabee Motor Caravan Starts For Washington J Washington. July 16 — (Enited Press.)—Tho "largest caravan" In the Wtrld— composed of 2,500 automabUw is on its way to Washington The so-called caravan is bringing 10,tmv members of the Maceabee lodge, to their national convention here July 20 to 24, from ail sections of the United States. The novel stunt of using automobiles exclustlveijr la designed to draw attention of the public to traffic conditions, which subject part of the convention program will be devoted. Uniform Legislation. Uniform traffic legislation will be urged by the convention, so that a "safe driver" In one stale will not be "reckless" under the laws of another state through which he may drive. Each Maccabbee automobile driver will fill out a questionnaire telling of his experiences, and the results will be tabulated for use in promoting improved traffic laws. A. W. July 16 — Bishop John Francis Noll, of Fort Wayne, will visit St. Mary's college and tile academy at Notre Dame university here next week on his first absence from Fort Wayne since his consecration as head of the northern Indiana diocese of the Catholic church three weeks ago. Bishop Noll will attend the election of officers of sisters of the congregation of the Holy Cross and on Tuesday will visit St. Amelia's convent at Donaldson. Covert Writes From * Wisconsin W’here He Has Been Dean Os School The Northern Wisconsin Young Peoples conference, held last week by the Presbyterian churches of Wisconsin at Lake Chetek and of which the Rev. B. N. Covert, pastor of tho Presbyterian church of this city, was (loan, ended Sunday. The conference was well attended and regarded as a great success. Rev. Covert had charge of the enrollment of the 133 delegates from all over Northern Wisconsin and also taught several classes lu the various phases of young peoples' life. The conference was held on the shores of Lake Chetak. one of the finest lakes.ln the heart of the interior lake district of the state. Rev. Covert left Chetek Monday for Cambria. Wisconsin, where he met Mi's. Covert and their baby. They will spend the remainder of tho month visiting friends and relatives in Wisconsin and will return to this city about the last of July.
