Russes Blamed For Loss In Traction Line Receipts Indianapolis, June 11. — (United Press)— Competition of bus passenger lines is blamed entirely for a decreate of $187,000 in the annual gross teceipts of the Terre Haute, Indianapolis and Eastern Traction company. The annual report of the company for' 1924. presented at a meeting of stockholders here yesterday showed an income of only $4,995,417. In 1923 before the bus industry had gained much of a foothold in Indiana, the gross earnings of the company were $5,282,000. Operating expenses for the year totaled $3,796,335 and the company paid $244,167 in taxes. After paying Interest on its debts and putting $22,124 in the sinking fund, a balance of $51,794 was left. The decrease in income, the report stated, was on railway receipts due to increased bus competition at. very reduced rates and to the greater use of private! yowned cars. Tlie report pointed out that bus and truck lines new parallel all the divisions of the traction company. Tlie Terre Haute. Indianapolis and Eastern company is leading in litigation now pending in superior court here to test the constitutionality of the Moorehead bus law passed by the last session of tlie legislature.
