Other farmers use as a basis the name found on the tag placed on each bag of fertilizer., it seems that some farmers are still guided by such reasoning in their fertilizer purchases, hut not so in the wide awake man who w ants the most for his money. He figures it out on an entirely different basis. He knows that the hulk of the fertilizer that is sold today has odor, that color is of no consequence, that price per ton means little unless the plant food in the bag is considered and the trade names carry more responsibility than that of the per-on who is instrumental in naming the brand. The value of a fertilizer depends first upon how much plant food is contained. The amount of plant food is indicated by the three figures seen on the tag: namely, those indicating the amount of amonia, phosphoric acid and potash. Its value depends on whether or not the plant food is available. The tag indicates the amount of soluble plant food. Drilling codnition is also of considerably importance since fertilizer that sticks in the drill is not only annoying but may also result in a serious loss of time and may ruin parts of machinery used in its application. The man who wants the most for a dollar pays most attention to the analysis of the different fertilizers offfcfPd for sale. Also he obtains the formula best adapted to the crop tipon which it is applied. Different farm crops mean different formulas of fertilizer just the same as different farm animals need different rations of feed, j Finally sheap fertilizer is usually expensive and high fertilizer is often (heap. Don’t cal! for just '‘fertilizer" and then select the one that is offered at the lowest price. ‘ Read the tag" —-o Hunting Policemen Who Patronized Bootlegger — Chicago, .May B—(United Press) — Chief of Police Morgan A. Collins’ sponge squad, who raided local bootlegging headquarters Wednesday, is today pondering on how it can identify officers named as protectors of liquor sellers. Police raiders found entries on the books of the place indicating payment of S2O to an unnamed lieutenant. $lO to “Policeman Kelley and palmer,” and "$lO each to three downtown “Dicks”. Yesterday Carl Simonson, manager of the establishment, forfeited his SI,OOO bond rather than identify the officers. Three Kelleys are included in the roster of the station in the district. 0 FRANKLIN — Nature plays some queer pranks, but one of ,the most curious happened here. A “Baby” tornado skipped across the east end of Franklin, removing the roof of a barn belonging to Robert Strageon. The roof was carried across the top of a Ford coupe and deposited just behind it. and just in front of another machine. The twister then uprooted about a quarter of a mile of telephone poles on the main road to Greensburg. No other damage was done. MOTHER’S DAY I Sunday; May 10 .
