New Telephone Poles being Erected in City One of, the construction gangs of the Bell Telephone company is work ing In the city erecting seven new large telephone poles. Four of the poles were erected on North Sixth street, inking the place of smaller poles. The poles carry the long distance wires of the Belle Telephone company. The men worked fust ami in one afternoon the holes were dug and the 35 foot poles placed in position. Brother Os Famous Grid Star In Decatur Yesterday 'The .1. and J. Tire shop of this city has secured the city agency for the General automobile tire, made at Akron. Ohio. Yesterday Mr. W. .1. Mr. Stuhldreher is a ; brother of Hary Stuhldreher. one of j the famous ‘‘four horsemen’’ of the - Notre Dame football squad last fali. ■ ■■■■——o —— —■ — — Lake May Be Formed In “Loh” South Os Geneva Jay county citizens are discussing a plan to convert the lowlands south of Geneva, in Jay county, into a lake by darning up the stream which runs through that section of the county. Failure of officials to properly dredge ' ihe "loli”, as it is known, turned sen--1 timent into favor of the plan to form a lake, it is said. The depth would be from 10 to 20 feet, it is said, and would be seven miles long and three miles wide. The lake would lie made by the state department of conservation, under the proposed plan. The. "lob" was made famous through the nature writings of Gene ’ Stratton Porter. o Fireproof Office Building Proposed For City, Report A stranger, said to be from Chicago, arrived here yesterday and was seeking office rooms. It was stated that he said he was representing an eastern firm which was interested in I building a fireproof office building in this city, but no details could be obtained. o Another Fined On Charge Os Public Intoxication Ira Carpenter, who resides in thei south part of the city, was arrested] .this morning by Chief of Police Joel! Carpenter was with Mau-1 rice Swathwood and Frank Smith when they were caught several days ago. but he succeeded in escaping police officers when the two other men | were arrested and taken into custody. ] Carpenter entered a plea of guilty 'when arraigned before Mayor DeVoss . this morning, but refused to tell where the liquor was obtained or answer any other questions asked him. The wheel belonged to a boy named Schnepp and was taken sometime this morning, police believe that they have a clow that will lead to the arrest of the person who stole the bicycle and are continuing to follow it out, but'this afternoon no arrest had yet been made. o Fined For Intoxication Frank "Red” Hower was arraigned in Mayor’s court this morning, charged with public intoxication. Huntingburg Resporids To Legion Endowment Fund Indianapolis, April 23—The American Legion Endowment Fund project for disabled veterans and war orphans now under way in Indiana, struck a responsive chord in Huntingburg. When the recent tornado swept southern Indiana, a campaign for Huntingburg’s S7OO quota in the Legion soldier and orphan relief movement was under way. Within ten days ■<750.55 was raised for the war suferers and $1,200 for the relief of the tornado victims.
