Decatur and other cities are showing handsome profits. Traveling salesmen tell us that De is the best town of its size in the middle west and the nearest normal. Kokomo, Muncie. Marion, and other big cities of the central part of the state are suffering from a big slump which has ruined many, but business here is moving along in a very satisfactory manner, considering the fact that this is a rural town and that the farriers have done business at a loss for three or four years. Clean up week in Decatur will open May 4th. Following the custom of
years the city will during that week remove rubbish from the al leys. In the meantime you should take care of your own premises and * X pldce the old cans and rubbish in receptacles in the alley so it can be ' most quickly and easiest handled by the city force. Let’s give the old town a good one this year. It’s a great thing not only for appearance but for the health of the people of this city. , r r— - -l x D. C. He seems to be one of those fellows wc have always heard of who would “kicklif he was going to he hung.” It should not be so much a question as to what he wants but rather what society wants. This man has boasted that he could not be punishel for any crime in Indiana courts Now let; se° wliat we have and where we are in this matter. Our guess is that he will find handling courts an entirely different matter from handling political conventions and pow wown. When you write your friends during the next four or five months, be sure to tell them we are going to have the biggest fair ever held here, ! opening September loth, and tell them that's saying something, tor,we

of speed and to meet the emergencies | •aused by banditry, hold-ups, boot egging and other crimes and misdeneanors of more or less serious decree, the city Council has decided to incredtm the police force more that i hundred per cent., which means the iddition of extra day and night men and plain-clothes officers as necesary. This action was taken last evening to comply with demands from various sources and the councilmen desirous of following the will of the people they represent unanimously ordered the increase. It should be remembered however that when the new budget is adopted to take care of cost of city managment it will also be necessary to increase that part of it to meet the increased expense. Often we ask these things with' an idea that they can be done in some mysterious way without cost, but this is usually an error of judgment for the police must be paid and the money must be raised to meet the larger overhead. We believe that the people of this community will approve the action and not complain of any reasonable cost for same. — o J Flbft Wayne—Richard James Swarthout r when taken into custody here i tol< police he ran away from his homb in 3hjmn. The Key to Success j Success depends primarily on a healthy liver and stomach. You can not think straight if these organs are not working properly. Mayr’s Wonderful Remedy is usually successful in such cases. Our advice to everyone troubled in this way. especially when accompanied with bloating in the stomach, is to try this remedy. It is a simple, harmless preparation that rtynovjss the catarrhal ’mucus from the intestinal tract and allays the inflammation which causes practically all stomach, liver and intestinal ailments. including appendicitis.. TELEPHONE PAY STATION ROBBEC I . Thieves Take Pay Station! Telephone Off Wall In Interurban Station Another bold piece of banditry l .ceuned at the Interurban station] 4 tills city some time between midi right last night and opening time i this morning, when the telephone pay station was broken off the wall I and taken. I The station was not closed, until late last night, and. according to the usual custom, the doors were left open for persons awaiting passengers from the last car from Fort Wayne. Some one entered the station and tore the pay station |from the wall inside the door and took the whole thing away witli them. There is no way of telling bow much money was in the box. but it is predicted that it contained about $2.50 or $3.00. because nothing Siad been removed by the telephone officials for several days. The theft was disoovered this morning when the station agent arrived. The telephone company and city police officials were notified r,f- the theft, but it is highly probable that the thieves will never be caught, because no clews whatever were left behind. Some persons are linking the theft of the automobile from) in front of the Moose home early last] evening with the interurban station ' robbery. Nothing else was taken at the interurban station. | o - Loogootee, Ind.. April 22—(United Press)—FiVe small children were left Institute today by the suicide of heir father.
