DIRIGIBLE BACK I AT BASE TODAY Runaway British Airship Is Returned By Crew Under Perfect Control London, April 17 a runaway in tho -»ki< s lor niori' than 152 hours, the riant British dirigible II?.:! returned to its base at J’ulham al 2 o'clock this afternoon. The airship, which was lorn from its mooring tnast shortly before t> a.tn. Thursday, maneuvered slowly over Ils aerodome under perfect control this afternoon, after having spent a perilous night over the storm swept North sea. The pride of air service officers in their dirigible was vindicated when its Commander, who was on board With 111 men of the crow when the R 2;; was swept away on a DO-mile gale, mam-uvered through the long hours, zig-zagging against head winds and finally brought his craft home without assistance. o , — HOLD-UP OCCURS ON STATE ROAD SOUTH OF CITY (Continued on Cage Eight) was masked, so he slipped his watch into th" front pocket of his car. As tl e one bandit approached he pointed the gun directly at the victim. One of the other men said. “He isn’t the one. but get hint out.” Mr. Lobenstine was ordered to get out of his car and asked if he had any money. The one bandit searched him while one of the others kept him covered with a gun. Some change was taken from his pockets and two one-dollar bills from his pocketbook. Fortunately. Mr. Lobenstine had been to the bank yesterday afternoon and did not. have a great amount of money with him. However, he did have a note on the Peoples Loan and Trust company and a cancelled check. Neither of these were taken. Undoubtedly, the bandits were looking for cash. After the searching was over, one of the bandits said, “Where’s your watch?” On being informed jjtmt he had left his watch at home. Mr. Lobenstine was ordered to get back in his car and go on. He crawled back in. and was escorted, at the point of a gun. across the road and the one man stood watching him so that it was impossible for him to turn around, or offer any resistance. As tlie victim crawled back into his car. the bandit car was started and the man who held the revolver was the last to get in the car. It headed west toward Bluffton. The car was a large touring model, with side curtains in the rear, and after the holdup it swung out toward Bluffton at a high rate of speed. Mr. Lobenstine immediately called up officials at this city, but as yet no trace of the bandits has been found. E. A. Beavers and his wife and. daughter were driving on Mercer! avenue earlier in the evening and as they neared the Adams county hospital they noticed a car of masked men driving toward this city. The cars description corresponds to the one that was used by the bandits in the Lobenstine holdup. Mr. Beavers] said that no effort was made to stop them, but that the men were masked,; evidently preparing for a robbery j later in the evening. This is the third hold-up in Adams' county in the last ten days, the other two being in Decatur stores. Only a vague description of last night's bandits could be offered by Mr. Lobenstine, because of the darkness. Two of the men were tall ami heavy, and the third was short and stocky. All wore caps. None of them had overcoats on and they all wore dark! suits. Save tive discount by paying! your Light and Power bills on) or before April 20. __BBt6j 1 i

He occupied the front seat us the passenger compartment and refused lo let anyone sit near him, ordering (he other passengers to Hit tow-ther lu the rear of the train. All efforts to overcome the man, who appear'd Io have considerable strength and power, were futile. A member of the train crew, seeing an opportunity, wired ahead from Spencerville, Ohio, to officials in this city ■who notified policeman Melchi. When the train arrived here, Melchi boarded the train and the man refused to get off, threatening to kill him and everyone else who attempted to over power him. After a short struggle policeman Melchi and several other men who were assisting him managed to get Wolfinger off the train. He was taken into the Erie station and- Sheriff Baker was notified, .lust before the sheriff arrived, Wolfinger, under the pretense of putting on his overcoat, made a lunge'for the door and managed to get about a fifty-foot headway on his pursuers. He ran west from the station and W. E. Teeters, who transfers the mail in this city, fired three shots at the fleeing man, but all missed their mark. Wolfinger refused to stop and headed for the lumber yards situated smithwest of the Erie tracks. Police--1 man Melchi, who was about seventy feet behind the escaped man, fired a shot at Wolfinger. The bullet hit his left shoulder in such a manner that it went entirely through the . muscle. He stopped and surrendered himself to the Decatur authorities and was taken to the Adams county jail. I Wolfinger i of medium height, heavy and very strong. The muscles of his arms have Hie appearance of a boxer or wrestler After he was stru’ck by the bullei lie made no fur thee effort Io e-c.ipe and went peace fully to the jail. This morning, wheh questioned. Wolf, nger said that |,e iiad left his wife about Iwo months ago and had gone to Toledo, Ohio, to work, lie tod several conflicting stories. He said at present he was broke and on his way back to Gary where ho was going to make another effort to "go straight." lie talked very fluently and his language was.more, polished than the usual run of "loiterers.” At Intervals, he would drift into such conversation that led local authorities to believe he was insane. He claims that he has a married daughter living in Fort Wayne. He said her name was Mrs. Aria Manny and that her husband was a trm k driver, latter said that sho was only an adopted daughter. Several times during the questioning, which ’ occured in his cell, Wolfinger would say, "Well, I guess I'll go out and get some fresh air.” Then he would start for the door which was blocked ' by sheriff Halier. A wire was sent to the hospital I for the criminally insane at Lima to see if any of the inmates of that place had escaped, but as yet no ' answer has been received. In the ; meantime. Erie officials have started 1 I to this city from Huntington and it is probable that Wolfinger will be 1 arraigned here some time today. ' When asked why he tried to escape 1 after taken into custody, Wolfinger L replied thta he liked exercise and just wanted to run. Physicians at- ’ tending him will administer a serum ’ j this afternoon to ward off any in-
section that might set in al the I wound. It was learned. <> — I PLANS FOR BOVS WEEK DISCUSSED Continued from Page one 1 1 *ies. expecting a kindness In return; I si cond. a higher conception.
