HELP MAINTAIN BETTER ROADS:— One o( the greatest economical problems of the people o£ Indiana today is the msintainence jf the roads which have cost millions of dollars Yesterday a group of men representing various interests, met at Indian apoiis to discuss the question and under the guidance of the Hoosier .State Automobile Association, will continue the campaign, designed to se-cure and maintain the best mads possible. As an expression of opinion nepre seating the entire group, the following statemeul was issued at the dosp of tlie meeting: First:—We appeal to the authorities in cities, towns and counties, to not replace repair funds normally provided for by subsisting the gasoline tax money which is to be distributed ns a result of the one-cent increase in the gasoline tax. We urge that this money he added to these funds and used to keep the streets and roads in better condition, if streets and roads are worth building at tremendous costs, they are worth being maintained, and furthermore. traffic is increasing every where at such a steady pace tiiat if strets and roads are not given proper maintenance, three things will hap pen -i. e., First, our roads and streets will not be in good condition to travel over. Second, the initial investment in streets and roads will be grossly neglected- And third, the cost of op oration of motor cars and other vehicles and the loss of time and, traffic service will be very greatly increased. Secoud .— Indiana is too slow iu the development of her state highway system. Automobile traffic on our main arteries of this state lias in ere i '-,1 very rapidly during the past few years. Not only is there a steadv increase in the number of autouio biles, but people are using their cars a great deal more than they did a few years ago when automobiles and roadsvere not nearly so good as they are today. Another tiling is. that our neighboring states are farther along iti llie development, of their stati roads than Indiana is and since Indi ana is in the pathway of interslati t iffii also, these two factors mean, volume of prospective traffic that de ntand: iu Indiana more mouey for faster paving of our state system of highways. Third: —We are very earnest iu hairing that thn state administratioti apprt and supports tb*> efficiency iliiil liis liceu established by the pro:;cut Slate Highway organization. We confidently support aud desire to encourage the Highway organization. We confidently- support and desire to cm on-age the Highway Comnaigoiou in Mm efftriieti'-y already established aud it is ib‘- s'-nvo of this meeting to recommend and support the Gov rrnor in maintaining Vhe excellent rmord already established, which we feel i recognized as equal or superior to any elate in economy and ctfi i ienvy in the country, and so rerog nir,ed lev road authoriDo; throughout the i cited Litates. ihe farmers are far ahead of las! -,ir ■ ith their work and ttsdicqtlmjt for a- plendid year were never bright
