TAKES FIRST OF CITY SERIES Defeat Leaders 28-23 In City Championship Game Last Night The <!♦»»»••«•;< I Electric company's] basket ball team wnn the first game of th<- city championship series from the Decatur Leaders at the high •u hoc I gymnasium last night, hut the score of 28-23. Only a small crowd yf fans witnessed the contest. The first half of the game was a ibnlile royal, the period ending with the score standing 13-12 in favor of the winners. The leaders scored lir: t on a field goal by Shirk and a 1 free throw by Kennedy. Oliver scored a field goal for the G. E., making the score 32. The [.coders pulled away to a lead of 7-1. hut the electricians came hack and tied the count at '• *>, and took a lead of 13-10, but a field goal by the lauidem reduced lhe lead to 13-12 at the half. The G. E. eagers took a commanding lead nt the start of the second half, leading at one time, 23-15, but the Leaders came back ami cut down the margin, but could not regain the 4ead. Oliver, who has been playing center for both teams all season, played with the G. E. last night, and was high point man with six field goals' and a free throw to his credit. Linn 1 Shirk, who played with the leaders last night, led in the scoring for the losers with five field goals, before being send to the showers with foul personals called on him. The Edgewater Reach hotel is near the university. | Coach Center is getting his athletes in fine condition for the tournament.: The players are taking early morn- ( ing inns to improve upon their endurance and "wind.” They will meet SS. Peter and Patil, of Huntington, l nt the high school gym in a practice game Thursday night. This will be the last appearance of the team here before the tournament. The first and second teams will play. One of the teams to take part in the tournament is composed of fullblooded American Indians. The team comes from the St. Francis M ssion. of South Dakota. The players are decendents of genuine Dakota Sioux Indians. • The list of thirty two teams to take par in the tournament is nearly complete. The elinrnation tournament in Chicago to determine what two teams will represent that city, is still in progress. Arrangements are being made to niicrta n ilic players of ::J1 teams participating in the tournament. The plans call for sight-seeing trips, theatre parties. Teams defeated in the early rounds of the tournament will be entertained throughout the

E. Leaders game at the high school gym. The Wonder Five took an early lead, but soon relinquished it to the winners and were trailing 22-11 fit the half.
