THE ROAD RIPPER BILL; — Views expressed by three outstand - ing men representing large interest* relative to the present and proposed highway commission plans challenge attention —E. W. Steinhart, president ul the Hoosier State Automobile Association: W. H. Settle, president of the Indiana Farm Bureau Feder ation. and Thomas H. Adams, chairman of the Indiana Republican Editorial Association's transportation committee. The question is whether the highway commission shall api«>int its own director and hold him responsible for his acts, or whether the Governor shall appoint the director and have the commission operate under a sort of dual government. Indiana is held up as a model state for economy and for good results. Neighboring states have spent millions where Indiana spent thousands. The cost of operation has been so low that the federal bureau of roait has pointed to Indiana as an example With all this evidence in favor of the present system it is hard to un derstand why there is such an insistent demand for a change. That dejnand can only be explained on tin ground that somebody wishes to have a finger in the political pie. Stein hart. Settle altd Adams have no per sonal axes to grind. They are plead iug for the good of the highway pro gram, tor its continued development and for the least friction as the work is carried on. Their opinions are worthjxof respect. Whatever may be the result of incidents returned against individuals, the system has not been indicted. So far it stands above reproach. To wreck all that and bring confusion in place of an orderly plan of procedure would mean a backset to road building Until the case has been tried in court the “ripper” bill propagandists should follow the examples of the investigal iug ulnoiumitlee and withold judg menl. Let no guilty man escaiTe and let no conspiring politicians upset a state board for spoils. After the cases are tried the Governor will still have, as be has now. power to remove if there is sufficient cause. So why all this specious pleading?— ’.'be Indianapolis News. While it now seems doubtful that the 'ripper' bill which would auto maiically discharge the road com mi siou and give the governor the pov i v to appoint his political lieu leu.ints tp the jobs, will pass, it is staled openly and on good, authority that the governor proposes to de • ami the immediate resignation of th- members and that he has in mind tie appointment of Ora Davies, of Eokemo, who it will be remembered was found short while treasurer of * Hov ird lounly a few years ago, to bv direitor. Others whom be desires to name are well known ward poll liciaii . The Denishawa Dancers are not merely an ensemble—a ballet—they are all individual thinking creative artists who have banded together under the Denishawn banner to express themselves and thus carry forward the art of the dance in America. The list of stars and Broadway successes who have bad their first experience on the stage with Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn is a large oge aud includes: Florence O'Deuishawu, Vanda Hoff, Lillian Powell, Mary Hay, Ada Forman, Martha Graham, Marjorie Peterson. Lubowska and others. Amp so in the present season the Denishawn Dancers include many dancers whose aanies next year or tbe following will !be in electric lights—er the theatrical equivalent. The Greenwich Village Follies has for everal years tried to persuade Doris Humphreys to leave the Denishawn fold and grace their revue to no avail. Doris, Humphreys has been 'with Denishawn for some years — first in vaudeville with Ruth St. Denis when Ted Shawn was iu the army; 'then as the leading dancer two seasons with the Ruth St. Denis Concert Dancers. After that she headlined in vaudeville for two years with her | own act. And now this is the second season since her return to the comI pany of Ruth St. Denis and Tod I Shawn, themselves. o — I BOYS’ WEEK TO BE SPONSORED BY ROTARIANS (Continued from Page One) a.u'.etics and the junior Olympic will be held, Thursday, will be boy's day in industry.
