Burr, of Chicago, called on buincss friends here today. Mrs .Mary Cook, of Decatur route seven, underwent a major operation at the Adams County Memorial Hospital this morning, and is in a critical condition. Billy Nye, of route seven, had his tonsils removed this mottling at the local hospital and is recovering satisfactorily. Blair Stage Manager Milt Swearingen o Denton-Willoughby Fight Carried To Legislature Indianapolis, Jan. 27—(Special to Daily Democrat) —The contest over the state supreme court justiceship now held by Benjamin Willoughby, republican, was carried to the state legislature today. Without public assent of George Denton, democrat, E. M- Miles, attorney for the Indiana Anti-Saloon league, filed notice of the contest with Speaker Harry Lesle of the house. Denton was declared defeated by one vote in the official count on the election November. Denton has a suit contesting the election pending in Marion county superior court but refused to take a hand in carrying the fight to the legislature. D. C. 11. S. Debaters Lose At Fort Wayne Supporting the affirmative on the question. "Resolved. That Capital Punishment Should Be Abolished." Paul Freiburger. Jack McVey and Giles Pierre, of the Central Catholic thigh school debating team, defeated Decatur Catholic high school last night at the K. of C. hall at Fort Wayne. Theodore Knapke, Arthur and Cedric Voglcwede represented Decatur. Attorney Lambert A. Fagan, Chester W. Keen and Attorney Thom as Adrian Hayes presided as judges, giving a unanimous decision. The debate featured the K. C. -social program of the e»«ning, of which Alex A. Kartholl aud Maurice C. Niezcr were in charge. Sunday afternoon the girls of the Deactur Catholic high school defeated the C. C. H. S. team of Fort Wayne in a debate held at the K. of C. hall here, the local team being on the •affirmative side of the question.

Famous Pianist Vanishes While Her Audience Waits New York. Jan. 27—(Special to Daily Democrat) —Vanishing Into the night while an audience of two thousand awaited her appearance at Carnegie hall, Ethel Leginska. the pianist, was missing today although sought for 12 hours by hundreds of police throughout the city. Leginska disappeared from the stoop of a modest brownstone frontled house 1 on the lower west side, during a space of 10 minutes in which her secretary sought a taxi cab.
