'FABMERHURTIP PECULIAR MANNER I Bullet Lodged In Rifle Hits His Hand When Heat Causes Explosion 'James A. Steele, well known ' land township farmer, was painfully injured in a peculiar accident about 9 o'clock this morning. Mr. Steele was ! attempting to melt a few bullets that hud l(Hlgr<l in pie Imrre! of his .22 calibre rifle, by heating the barrel or. the coals in a base-burner, when suddenly the bullets were fired from the trigger end of the gun. One of the bullets struck Mr. Steele's left hand, burying itself in the flesh. Another bullet crushed into the wall t of the room. When a ntgghbor attempted to shoot a hog with the gun this morning. the shot failed to hit the hog and upon investigation, it was found that I not only that bullet, but others were lodged in the barrel. Mr. Steele laid the barrel of the gun on the live coalu in the base-burner in hopes of me’* ing the lead bullets. After the barre' ( became hot Mr. Steele raised tip the stock of the gun, which protrude'! from the stove, and the bullets carte crashing out toward him. It i , thought that the heat caused a vaccuin in the barrel, causing an explosion which forced the bullets out with great force. The gun, crack'd as loud as when the bullets are fired from the cartridges. There was no powder in the gun. Mr. Steele came to this city and had an X-Ray tak. n of the hand to locate the bullet.
