Y. idle Bldv., Kansas city, Mo'. ■ We wish you all a very merry Christmas. Here’s hoping it ■sthc happiest you have ever had, that you get every thing you K-ant and that you find great joy in giving to others. ■¥¥ ¥ ¥ I Just a hundred years ago this Christmas the wonderful carol, ■■Silent Night, Holy. Night, was given to the world and it lives ■oday, proving that worth-while sentiment is the greatest monu■r...:’.t after all. ■** ★ ★ I Just when it appeared the world was growing better and that ■weare getting some where, a New York woman “kicks the bucket" ■gndbequeaths $5,000 to her pet cat. Sometimes we believe those Kho argue that we haven’t enough homes for the feeble minded. ■¥¥ ¥ ¥ I Mabel Piggott, of Riverton. Montana, has sent a forty-pound ■turkey to President Coolidge. He doesn’t look like he can handle ■c.f that size but he fooled a lot of us on election day and perhaps ■may do it again on this job. ■¥¥ ¥ ¥ I The Community Christmas tree is sparkling out to every■one a Merry Christmas. I! stands on Liberty Way and it says to ■allot’you that this community believes in Santa Claus and all the ■traditions of the Yuletide and likewise in the lessons taught by ■the Mester whose birthday wo are celebrating. ■ ' , -•'« ¥ ¥ ¥ ¥ I It’s only a week until New Years. After you are over ■Christmas you will have a few days to plan what we will do in ■1925 to help the community. The Industrial Association will ■meet January 12th and at that time besides the election of of■fieers there will be discussion of plans looking to a busy, pros- ■ Porous .vear.,,_yt’(>n’t you be a part.of this effort? ¥¥ ¥ ¥ I Os course there will be no publication of the paper tomorrow. ■ It’s Christmas and the entire force will celebrate the occasion. ■ Practically every business house in the city wiil close and the I usual program of church services, reunions, family dinners and good times will prevail. Send in your items of news for Friday. We will appreciate it and in that way you help make the home paper more interesting for every one. ¥¥ ¥ ¥ And remember that Christmas is not only in the giving of gifts and the pleasures of feasting. We hope you all have plenty of each and more. But don’t forget whose birthday this is and what His coming on earth meant to all mankind. Over two thousand years ago Christ was born in Bethleham and millions still follow His teachings. Surely that is proof of His worth. If you need more it is in the fact that those nations alone which have followed His commandments have prospered. ¥¥ ¥ ¥ More than a hundred Decatur merchants today wish you the seasons greetings through these columns. They come from those who appreciate your business, who love you because of close association, who help to make this community an excellent place in which to live, who pay taxes with you that our public instiutions may be continued, who are a part of the best city and county in the entire universe. They are your friends and the good wishes from them are the ones worth while. L¥¥ ¥ ¥ And soon now will come the convening of the Indiana legislature and the offering of about a thousand "bills tor an act to do certain things, prevent us from doing some and forcing us t<> do others. Occasionally' we hear of the suggestion that the session be cut short, but after the first “howdys” the conflict will he on and it will probably be so hot that the sixty-one days will even fall short of time to settle every thing. ¥¥ ¥ ¥ A dozen people have told us personally that they thought the “booster” who carded us a few days ago with the argument that times were too hard for an Old Home Week next autumn, was using the wrong argument. The thing to do is to express it in writing so we can give your views to the public. And please sign your name, which will be held in strict confidence if you reques. it. We want your opinions which don’t mean you ha.e to with us. We’re human and every one who tries to do any thing >s wrong sometimes. Tell us what you think on this and other Questions. ¥¥ ¥ ¥ In many cities warnings have been issued of a . Poison “holiday hootch” made by conscienceless aw v . dump upon the Christmas market. A hundret tea . d _ ready been reported and hundreds of cases o paiai... ness and serious illness will result. Authonties aie ly | e Vent these cases but they can do but little so °’ lg ‘ b uy any old thing placed upon the market and labete _ °nly safe rule is to leave it alone or at leas o merry it comes from and what it is. You can have a merry Christmas without it if you just think so.
