Word has been received here of the serious illness of Mrs. Heil Johnson of Portland, Indiana, formerly of this city. Mrs. Johnson has been suffering for the past two weeks with asthma and bronlchal trouble, and has been confined in a hospital n part of that time. In view of the embargo placed on carload shipments of live chickens to New York state. The embargo, which first affected Indiana ami seven other state, now covers all i states and carload shipments of live chickens, graded as hens, will not bo received in the Empire state. Local produce men state that they have not found the so-called pneumonia disease in the chickens raised in the county and in the immediate vicinity, but in view of th'3 bmbargq in the east they wilt not buy tow.s. However, young- chickens will be purchased. There is no embargo on dressed poultry to New York and many produce concerns are now shipping dressed poultry to the east. The embargo ’does not affect turkeys, ducks, geese and the like. The embargo against live chic kens was issued in Indiana last week and yesterday the ban was spread to other states. o — Holy Name Society And K. Os C. Meet Together An excellent program was given at
the K. of C. hall last evening a joint meeting of the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name society of the St. Marys Catholic church being held. A musical program was given, Mrs. L. A. Holthouse acting as pianist. Six students of the Catholic high school, namely Earl Christen, George Laurent, Robert Voglewede, Gerald Mylott. Fred S< hull and Fred Connell sang a number of songs. Informal talks were given by several of the members and the meeting was thoroughly enjoyed. More than 100 men attended the meeting. A committee to arrange for the program for the January meetings was appointed. A memorial to E. X.
