Notre Dame Team Plays At Portland Next Sunday Portland, Ind.. Nov. !».—Football fans of Eastern Indiana will have an opportunity to witness a real football classic on next Sunday afternoon when the Day Dodgers of Notre Dame University come to do battle with the Our Hoys at Mast Held. Those who witnessed the game between these teams last year proclaimed it one of the finest they ever saw and Coach Rockne has promised the local management that he will send a squad which has had his personal supervision. The leant which conies to Portland holds the interhall championship at Notre Dame and four members of last year’s squad are first and second string varsity men this year. The fame of the Notre Dame football team is well known to every follower of the sport and it is expected that the largest crowd that ever attended a game of football in Eastern Indiana will be present next Sunday afternon to watch the University boys <lo their stuff. To those who have not had the privilege of witnessing the Notre Dame Varsity in action the game Sunday will afford a rare opportunity to see a sample of strategy, speed ami team work that lias distinguished Coach Rockne’s elevens. Special preparlions are being made to take care of a large crowd by erecting additional bleachers and otherwise providing accomodations. A col- ( lege referee will officiate. Coach Mack-, lin will give the Our Roys special work this week and hopes to perfect i a defense that will prevent the Rockne men from winning the game.' The game will start promptly at two o’clock. Judging from the schedule for Saturday that last kick will be a healthy
one. I I Coach Confer reports that his 1 Catholic High gridders are in good ondition for their go with Paulding. Ohio, high school at Paulding Friday afternoon. The Buckeyes have a strong team, but the locals are determined to put over a win. They are due to deliver soon, and Paulding may be the goat. Here’s what Out of Bounds has to say about the Leaders-Phi Delt has-, ketball game here last Tuesday night: "Now that the first honors in the ( Decatur Leader-Phi Delt mixup goer, to Decatur, fans are advancing theories on the out come of the next game here. The Leaders had a dear ad-1 vantage in their playing in the last half of the game last evening, but local fans, who witnessed the game, are confident that the game here will show the Phi Delts to be the winners. Just the same the two teams are about evenly matched and whenever they clash, a real battle is sure to take place.” Tip Offs seems to think that the Leaders wouldn’t have had any show if Mendenhall hadn't been in the lineup. Maybe not, but what of it. He was in the lineup. The Phi Delts wouldn't have made the showing they did if Cummins hadn’t-been in their lineup. This is real football weather. If the weather is favorable Saturday, several colleges ought to have a nice pile of shekels in their colters by evening. o ALONG THE SIDELINES (United Press Service) Chicago.—Time spent on the subs of the Chicago team by the coaches in preparation for the Wisconsin game Saturday on which hinges the championship tor Chicago, is believed to indicate Coach Stagg plans a smashing attack which might be too strenuous for one set of players to stand. i Evanston. — Northwestern hopes to put up the battle of its life Saturday against Notre Dame.
