TEAMS I. : BEAT BERNE 1 i Season Opened With Vic- ? tories; Boys Win 26-21; 1 Girls Win 13-9 a s In two hard-fought basketball games plaed in the now high school r 3 gymnasium here last night, the Dej catur high school boys and girls f triumphed over the Berne high school • boys and girls. The Decatur girls • won by a score of 13-9 and the D. H. ’ S. boys were victorious by a score of f 26-21. The games were well played 9 for opening games and the large crowd that attended the game was well pleased with the pastiming 1 In a preliminary game the D. IT. S. , Midgets defeated the eighth grade j team from the Central school by a f score of 17-7. The Midgets displayed t exceptionally fast pass work and team I play in winning. Callow scored four , fields goals while Zwick and Somers starred on defense. I In the second game of the evening 1 the Decatur girls received sweet revenge for the defeat they suffered at . the hands of the Berne girls last season. Last night's defeat was the first ’ one suffered by the Berne lassies for more than a year. The Decatur girls took the lead during the first half and ( were leading 7 to 5 at half-time. The Berne girls were much larger than ' the local girls, but the D. H. S. lassies exhibited good teamwork and goal shooting. Berne high school is represented by one of the best boys’ teams in the history of the school this year. The boys have been practicing since October 1 and are in midseason form. They had played a game with Monroe before last night's content. Coach Dilts's men passed the ball like veterans and had plenty of fight. They led during the first few minutes and then tied the score in the last few minutes of play, only to lose the battle when the Yellow Jackets rallied. Coach Kennedy's Yellow Jackets, while showing promise of developing into a speedy quintet, showed that they have much hard work ahead of them. Captain Miller and Andrews, iwho played throughout the game last night, also played a game of football
