w KIRKLANOTEAM OPENS PRACTICE Township High School Has Visions Os Another Strong Team With signs of another strong team, the Kirkland high school basketball men started practice in the old gymnasium in Decatur last evening. Ernst, all-district center last year, Arnold and Jaberg. members of last year’s squad, are the veterans around who the 1924-25 team will be built. There are several promising material in the freshman class and from last year’s second team. Frank Null, of Muncie, will coach the team this year. Beginning next ; week, there will be two practice sessions every week, one at the high | school gymnasium and the other at the old gymnasium on First street. —o Preble Plays Magley Team Next Sunday, Preble, Ind., Oct. 17. —After several | weeks of idleness, due to rain and wet grounds, the Preble baseball! team will play before the home fans again next Sunday, with a team from 1 Magley furnishing the opposition. Either Shady or Frauhiger will do the pitching for Preble, with Boese behind the bat. This likely will be the last game of the season and a large crowd is expected to turn out. o Baskethall Practice Is Under Way At Indiana U. Basketball practice has opened at Indiana University under the Crimson’s new head coach. Everett S. Dean. With practicelly all regulars from last year’s quintet back, prospects look good for a successful season. Purdue Team Is Ready Lafayette, Ind., Oct. 17—(Special to Dally Democrat) —A short signal and kicking drill Thursday rounded off the Boilermakers' drill for the Northwestern game tomorrow. Tom Hogan, varsity end, was the only regular not in uniform, but he is ex pected to start against the Purple. o Maroons Work Late Chicago, Oct. 17—(Special to Daily Democrat) —A long kicking drill, followed by signal practice under the flood lights, occupied the Maroons yesterday in their drill for the Indiana game BUI Clarke, sophomore half back, was the best of the punters. • — o Crimson Invade Chicago . Bloomington, Ind., Oct. 17—(Special to Daily Democrat) —Navy Bill Ingram led nearly 40 players to Chicago today, accompanied by six cross country runners who will engage the Maroons in a curtain raiser to the grid game Saturday. The rooters" special of fifteen coaches, carrying fans and a 110 piece band, leaves at midnight. Van Wert Cardinals To Play At Portland Portland, Ind.. Oct. 17.—The football fans of Portland and vicinity are promised another good game of football when the fa-1 Van Wert Cardinals of Van Wert. Ohio meet up with Our Boys at Mast Field next Sunday afternoon. The visitors will considerably outweigh the locals, but the local management being desireous of giving the fans their money's worth find it. necessary to hook teams heavier than the Our Boys, as they make up in speed and skill what they lack' in weight. The Van Wert club defeated the fast Yale club of Ft. Wayne last Sunday by a score of 14 to 7. The Yales defeated Portland in the first game of the season, so it can be easily seen that the Our Boys will have a hard battle on their hands. Most High Schools Belong To I. H. S. A. A.
