Out of every paid for state and local govern- 1 in Indiana 36.68 cents were for common schools. Next to common schools rank high■*Ws with 20.56 cents paid out of the ■dollar. ■ Other items follow: ■ State government, 2.36 cents; coun- ■ ty government, 9.70: township govern- ■ ®«t. 3.33; township poor funds, 47; ■ city government, 19.55; state colleges, ■ 2.25; and state benevolent and penal ■ institutions, 5.07. N. Sherwood, of Franklin college, candidate for state superintendent of public instruction, on the republican ticket. Williams placed evidence before Clyde A. Walb. republican state chairman, last week in an effort to prove that Sherwood had been guilty of questionable methods in collecting subscriptions for a teacher’s magazine he formerly published. Williams quoted L. C. Ward, superintendent of schools at Fort Wayne, John W. baird, former head of the state normal at Danville and other educators to sustain his charges against Sherwood. o Less Than One-Third Os Voters Register (United Press Service) Muncie, Ind., Sept, 9. —Special to Daily Democrat )-»-With fourteen of the thirty-five precincts of Delaware county officially reported, indications were today that less than one-third of the total vote of the county was registered Saturday. The fourteen precincts registered 4,000 votes, equally divided between men and women. o Search For Indianapolis Man Who Disappeared Logansport, Ind., Sept. 9.—Special i to Daily Democrat) —Cass county ■ authorities today were asked to aid in the search for Earl Hansen, of Indianapolis, business man who disappeared while on a trip here last Friday. No cause is known for his disapperance. o Believe Man’s Body Is In Wreckage Near Collett Portland, Sept. 9.—There is every probability that there is a dead body under the wreckage of a Grand Rapids freight train south of Collett. The wreck occurred some two or three weeks ago, a number of freight cars being piled up along the track. This has not yet been cleared away, owing to a press of other work by railroad employes. During the past several days a very offensive odor has been noticed 'in the vicinity of the wreckage and a large number of flies have been swarming about the place. Railroad employes believe that some one riding the train was killed when the wreck took place, and the remains are buried beneath the wreckage. The wreckage south of Collett will be cleared away in a few days, it is understood, and the corpse, it any will be uncovered. o,. — Funeral Held Today For Mrs. Anna White Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock this morning, tor Mrs. Anna ‘White, age 87, mother of Dr. John C. White, pastor of the Simpson Method ist Episcopal church in Fort Wayne. The services were held from the home of Dr. White. Mrs. White died of sen ility at the home of her son Saturday morning. She had been in excellent health until three weeks ago when she suffered a general breakdown. Mrs. White was well known in Deca tur, having visited here much while her son, Dr. White, was pastor of the local Methodist church. Mrs. White, wag the widow of Rev | Jacob C. White, a Methodist Episcopal minister, who died 18 years ago while serving as pastor of the church at Upland. The Rev. Mr. White and Mrs. White were married in October. 1859, and since that time the home of Mrs. White has always been in a Methodist parsonage. At the time of her death she was a member of the Simpson church. Her husband, during his ministry held charges in the North Indiana Conference and in what was former ly known as the Southeast Indiana : conference of the Methodist Episco- . pal church. Surviving are one son. Dr. White, one daughter, Mrs. Grace M. Woodruff, of Indianapolis, with whom she formerly made her home: two stepsons, the Rev. Charles E. White and William G. White; four grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. o Terre Haute—The life of a firemen here is full of adventure.
