butler awaits ACTION BY U. S. FEDERAL COURT I formal Arrest Bv Federal Officer Expected Late Today Or Sunday IS HELD IN JAIL Must Await Action Bv Federal Grand Jury: Trial At Indianapolis The formal arroßt of Mel J. Ilutler, tilv mail carrier, on a charge of cmbw>ng. unlawful opon'-ng anil rifling „[ the United Staton malls will be made as soon as a United States Marshall arrives from Indianapolis to serve the necessary papers. The officer was expected to arrive in the city sometime today or tomorrow. Mr. Butler is still confined at the Adams county jail. Evidence supporting the charges irainst Mr. Ilutler was placed before T. J. Logan, TT. S. Commissioner at Kurt Wayne, late Friday afternon bv Asahel S. Kelly, postmaster inspector tntl Harry Frltzlnger. postmaster of the Decatur postoffic?. The United Stated marshal at Fort Wayne, not having Jurisdiction or authority to make arrests outside of Allen county. It was necessary for Mr. laigan to notify tho federal office at Indianapolis and request that the proper officer he sent here to place Mr Rutler under arrest. Inspector Kelly charged Mr. Rutler with embezzling and unlawfnly open ffitr'a letter which was mailed in this city to Miss Peggy Anderson, of D< n ver. Colorado. The letter was a decoy or “tea 1 " letter and contained ten Me dollar hills and live J cent stamps The money was found on Mr. Butler's person upon Investigation conducted hy Mr. Kelly. Following Mr. Butler's arrest, lie will tie taken to Fort Wayne, for a preliminary hearing before Commistioner Ixigan and that official will decide on the amount of hond required '9 order to nhtaln hi* release from the Adams county jail. FOUR KILLED IN AUTO ACCIDENTS AT INDIANAPOLIS Six Seriously Injured As Result Os Wrecks In Last 18 Hours SPEED IS BLAMED One C’ar Hits Freight Locotive; Woman And Children Hurt Indianapolis, June 21.—Four mpn are dead and six persons are seriously injured as the result of auto accidents in the last eighteen hours. j Alonzo Whitaker. 22. was instantly killed today when a truck of freight' cars struck the Ice wagon on which he was riding. Fred Haynes, 37. riding with hlm,| was fatally Injured and died a short time after being taken to a hospital. I Outer Anthony, of Kokomo, was kill-1 e.l and Oscar Seeholts, also of Kokomo, was seriously Injured near Fortvile. Their auto which was said to be go-! ing at high speed struck a stretch of ( fresh gravel skidded to the side of, the roa.i and turned over. Anthony was crushed beneath the car und died; Instantly. William Lowes, 17. died when his . brother lost control of an auto speeding down hill on the Michigan road south of Indlanapois. The auto overturned and neck was broken. The brother escaped injury. An automobile driven by Mrs. Amy Kelly, 27. smashed Into the side of a freight locomotive. CHAUTAUQUA TENT ARRIVES IN CITY TODAY Tent Large Enough To Seat 1,500 People; Platform Manager Coming TICKET SALE GOOD Boy Scouts, Sorority Girls And Ladies Aid In Selling Tickets The big brown oval tent for the Community Chautauqua, which will open in this city Tuesday evening, arrived In a special baggage car on the Pennsylvania railroad today, in the charge of Mr. W. E. Waybrlght. who will look after the details of having It erected. Tent On Liberty Way The tent will he located across the south side of Liberty Way und partly on the government lot, south of the court house. The tent is a large one. 98 l»y 98 feet and can accomodate l.- 1 200 or 1,500 people. Chairs anil benches sufficient to seat at least 1,000 people came with the tent. One feature of the sea’iing capacity wi'l he a small section of reserved sats for physicians, mothers, or those might he called from the chautauqua dlring a performance. A fee of ten cents wilt be churged for a reserved seat. The Platform Manager Mr. Bradley, the platform manager, w-ill arrive In the city sometime Monday or early Tuesday, previous to the opening ul the chautuuqnn program in the evening. Tickets Are Selling Tickets for the chautauqua are selling rapidly.
