We honor their memory by placing a stone or a slab of marble upon which we inscribe our tribute of love and praise of their virtues. “These monuments composed of materials of an enduring nature testify to countless generations the life work and influence of those whom we wish to honor. Another usage even more beautiful than this is ono which we have adopted with reference to our departed soldiers. We place at the head of each grave a small flag to denote our appreciation for their sacrifice and devotion to their country. What more eloquent monument could we contriute than the symbol of the Ideals for which they fought? “There is a world of significance in the message of the flag as A monument to a soldier's heroism. Each color in its board folds represents an element in his patriotic devotion. “The crimson bars of our national emblem has always stood for that paramount quality of citizenshp courage. As we recount the deeds of our noble sires what a prominent place is given to their attribute. “Theirs was the true kind of Courage. Some go to war for the mere love of fighting. cannot be denied its goal. “The white of our flag testifies to the sincerity and purity of motive of our soldiers. It is a well-known fact ! | that all our wars have been fought ' for noble ideals. We have not strug- ■ gled for monetary gains or acquisition i of land. This has made our men fearles 8 because they have felt that they ■ were in the right. “The Blue of our noble monument stands for loyalty for our nation. True loyalty to our nation costs. It demands sacrifice on the part of officeholders, statesmen and all citizens. It has cost the lives of and thousands of our boys. No honor can be too great to confer upon their memory after such a tremendous cost price has been paid by them for us. "Let us today consecrate ourselves anew to the tasks which have been assigned us inspired by their lives and unselfish devotion. Let us curb selfishness in individual and national life, cultivate the noble and true remembering always "that they died for us.” Let us keep unspotted this holy monument. our flag, so that it may fill us with righteous and unswerving loyalty to the land we love.” Met At Legion Hall The veterans and members of the
