SAYS GEN. WOOD WAS APPROACHED Witness Tells Investigators Os Attempted "Deal’’ In Convention Washington, April 18—(Special to Daily Denfocrait) - The sena*te oil committee today heard a round-about story of alleged overtures said to have been made to General Leonard Wood l>y the late Senator Bois Penrose of Pennsylvania 1920 republican convention. According to the account. Penrose called tho Wood headquarters by phone the night before the late President Harding was nominated and asked to know it Wood, if elected, would give "us” three cabinet members, — Though assured by ono of his advisers that his consent would mean his election. Wood refused to make any promises. The story was told the committee by T. A. Harmon, a tax expert of Indianapolis. who said he obtained the account of the telephone conversation from James L. Nimrod of Mooseheart. 111., who was a confidential worker in Wood headquarters and who claimed to have taken the message from Penrose at Wood's request. o Observance At Huntington Huntington. Dpi.. April 18—A general observance of Good Friday was observed here today in compliance with the proclamation u( Mayor Jullerat who requested that the stores Close during the Three Hours from twelve to three o’clock.
