The boys are doped to win over the Kendallville team, but indications are that the game will be hard fought, as the visitors played good basketball Sat unlay night when the defeated the South Side team from Fort Wayne, 4’l 25. Kendallville defeated i Decatur at Kendallville in December, but the locals have improved greatly since then. The game Friday night will be the last home game for five I). 11. S. players. Captain Dorwin. Steele, White and Farr will be graduated this year. The Bryant girls’ team is the undefeated (hampion of Jay county. PLAN TO MARK HIGHWAYSOON Harding Highway To Be Marked Before Tourist Season Opens The following story concerning the marking of the Harding Highway, which according to present plans will pass through Decatur, appeared in the Chicago Sunday Tribune.: “Marion. 0.-—Definite plans for marking the Harding Highway Iretween Pittsburgh and Chicago before th» tourist season opens in the spring ; were made in Columbus by the executive committee of the association, in conference with State Highway Director L. A. Houlay. “An offit iai emblem is to go up ail along the route. This is approved by the highway official and is now ready to l»e printed. The highway Is to be one of the best marked in the country. Field scouts will shortly begin the marking. In the meantime the highway department will add to the num- | her of official signs they have up. “Much travel may be expected dur- . Ing the coming season. The excellent condition of the pavement in Ohio will attract many cars, and the fact that the Lincoln highway will direct travel over the Harding Highway between Lima and Mansfield will contribute to this route. “The stretch from the Ohio line to . Chicago will be gravel in good sha|v> for fast travel- while the Lincoln and Yellowstone competing routes, it is said, will be closed in parts. There I will be only two minor detours on the highway. One will be at Caledonia, where a new bridge goes In. and the other ax the T. & O. C. R. R. where an overhead bridge is to be put in.’’ - 1 O-- — BREAK A CHEST COLD WITH HEAT . Field Goals I by “Eagle Eye” Pete Purdue moved into a tie with Chicago for the Big Ten lead by trouncing Northwestern 34-16 last night. The Boilermakers had things much their own way as the first half ended 24 2. Had you realized that the game here Friday night between It. H. S. five and Kendallville will be the Inst home game for five Yellow Jackets? Captain Dorwin. Bud White, Diz Steele Greenie Lammiman, and Don Farr will be performing before the home fans for the last time as 1). H. S. qagers. These fighting athletes greeted by the largest crowd that ever packed into the big gym and they sjiould have the hearty cheers ot every fan to help them win this last game at home. Kendallville is a worthy opponent and the game will be well worth watching. Two field goals by Logan in the last five minutes won for Indiana over Notre Dame last night, 21-20 in a close guarding game. Logan had been removed from the game on account of injuries but returned to the fray in the last few minutes. And don't forget that several girls wHI be playing their last game for D. 11. S. on the home floor. The local girls will play the Hryant girls, th< undefeated champions of Jay County and the Purple and Gold players will need the support of the fans to win this game. The local girls have made a fine record this season and the fans should and do feel proud o.' them. Fanny Fanette purchased a season ticket for the tournament at Portland today. She isn't going to take any chances on not getting into the big armory Feb. 29 or March 1. That second half of the leaderHartford City game last night sure was a thriller. The leaders sure deserved to win after fighting an uje hill battle, overcoming a ten point lead and (orfftnff ahead two pointe, but tough luck on baskets in the hn t two minutes was disastrous. Cran * hadn't been doing much throughout the game until the visitors needed points badly In the last five minut« s and then he delivered. To be beaten by a team of ex-co’.lege stars like that is no disgrace. There is considerable truth to the following ejaculation by Sport Onceover: "It is probable that South Side basketball team will not play in Kendallville again until that team has a new gymnasium. It is unfair to South Side teams, used to scientific passing and teamwork on a big floor to play on a floor so small that the opposing players grab the ball on the rebound from the baikstop and fire away at the other end of the floor. That may be good shooting but it cannot be called good basket bull." Tip Offs says the basketball crown of Wells county is resting on the heads of the Union Center players While Bluffton Is recovering from the shock of being only seven points behind for the coveted honors. They must have been shocked to realize that they got that far in the tournament. o William Rupert M ins Corn Judge’s License William Rupert, prominent fanner of near Monroe, received a letter yesterday from G. The women of the Civic department have been defraying the expense of keeping someone in charge of the room and paying other expenses connected with maintaining of the room. The rest room is kept open in the afternoons and on Saturday evening and the women would like to have a little assistance financially towards the maintaining of the room. It is the only public rest room in the city, except the one In the court house, which is opened only during the day. o Rewiring Offices Os Auditor And Recorder The electric wiring in the county! auditor's and recorder’s office in the] court house is being placed in conduit, Gerald Cole, of the Star Electric company, doing the work. The wiring that had been in these offices was worn and many places unsafe. By placing it In conduit it eliminates the chances of fire and also adds to tho tidiness of the room. The wiring in the treasurers, clerk and sheriff's offices was placed in conduit sometime ago.
