That has been the popular method of disposing of every unpleasant thing for six years past, but It won't work this time. The boys finally have to stand up and take their medicine. 'Stough. The women of America smoked more than ten billion cigarettes last year and in recognition of that patronage, the manufacturers have decided to produce "cigs” to match milady's gown, blue, pink, green, any old color. We may not be advancing much after all. The entrance of Jim Reed, of Missouri. in the race for the democratic nomination for president, assures ti - people of one thing and that is, that the New York conventon will not by any means, be a pink tea affair. Reed is a fighter and though usually wrong, always lets his enemies know he is present. Mr. Fall, the ex-secretary of the interior is so sick he has not been able to appear before the investigation committee. We should think he would bo. for so far as he is concerned, there has not been a sign of evidence to even partially clear his actions. Evidently his colleagues now believe he ‘sold out.” This is a year when many interesting news events will break and you will want to read about the prirnar ies, elections, events at Washington, in Indiana, In Adams county, you will want the social Items, the court news, sports, a hundred things that are sure to happen. Now is the time to subscribe for the Dally Democrat. Don’t put It off. Sir Charles Higham, of England, has arranged for spending one mil Hon dollars In American with which better drink than coffee. Brisbane agrees and declares tea a stimulant to advertise tea and to prove ft a antb coffee a sedative and that workmen in the north forests drink tea in great quantities to keep them warm. Perhaps the Hearst papers get a large slice of that million but any way it’s a good thing to think about and talk . about. | Among the other attractions at New York during the national democratic convention will be u Dempseynibboaa match which Tex Rickard Is nutting on. political meeting. It is estimated that. 2011,000 people will be attracted to the city for the convention and of course many of these will attend the big' "go." Are you forgetting your suhscrip- ' tion renewal to the Daily Democrat? , We want you all to continue in the family and we promise you our best, efforts to help this community. That's' our idea of a newspaper. If we are ' of no benefit to you, no good to the I i community, we fiavn’t a place, but we i know that with your support, wo can 1 be of great benefit. The first thing ' is to have a large paid subscription ' list. That shows interest in the community and the next thing is to have those people help the pap« 9 by sending in news Items, your opinion on various subjects, boosts for those propositions deserving them and a pull together that will help progress. The republican partisan press and the politicians are working over time trying to convince a very doubtful public that because Secretary Fall Stubbed his toe, the adminstratlon cannot be blamed and that's one great trouble with congress—every thing done there seems to be with a view to playing politics and not helping the people. The Fall scheme is not working, however, for now Secretary Denby and other members of the cabinet are being drawn in and before they are through almost the entire membership will have to explain or quit. It Is charged that the matter was openly discussed before a number of cabinet meetings and even Mr. Coolidge, then vice-president, knew much about the matter. It's a dirty mess, even worse than the disaster in our own state and the good Lord knows that’s bad enough. o- ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦ ♦ TWENTY YEARB AGO TODAY ♦ « From the Dally Democrat fils* ♦ ♦ 20 years ago thia day ♦ January 29—Sam Frank painfully hurt when his left hand was accidentally bolted to shaft in pump station near Hartford City.
