White Deer Escaped Hunters This Season (United Press Service) Ridgway, Pa,—The white deer with pink eyes still roams Elk County's immense forest wilderness: The albino buck, a magnificent specimen with a fine pair of antlers escaped the army of hunters front all parts of the east who attempted to kill him during the 15-day hunting season, which ended Dec. 15. Prior to the open season he hail been seen by many residents of the Arroyo lumbering section, 12 miles south of here. The prediction was made at that time that lie would be easy prey for tho hunters, because of his gleaming white coat, which was visible for miles against the drab’ background of the forst-killed mountain brush. Natives aver that the white deer is but a spectre—even those who have seen it doubt his physiciul existence. The fact that lie was not slain or '•ven seen by hunters strengthens their belief. , Ten years ago siniiliar animial was found dead !u the forest near St. Marys, a town 10 miles east of here, Tho back portion of the body had been devoured by tho wildcats, which had pulled it down. The head and what remained of the hide wore stuffed. — Hard on grease dirt. Easy on hands—Spee-!)ee. — — Officers Make Futile Search For A Still Sheriff Baker and his deputy were In Geneva Monday afternoon, picked up Marshall Hollingsworth and proceeded to the J.* L. Love farm a mile north of town, where they made n thorough search for illicit liquor aiql a still. Tbelr only reward, however, was tho discovery In tho basement of the house of some barrels v hich contained, according to the ofbeers, a small amount of old mash in the bottom, and a couple of large oil stoves. Though they carefully searched the entire farm, they were unable to find any liquor or even a part of s still.
