In ('leveland, the world is their oyster. Those fellows are named O. I’. Van Sweringen and M. J. Van Sweringen, fourteen years ago, with a few’ hnn. | dretl tinllars, they saw the opportunitp i for developing what has now become [the Shaker Heights suburb. They bought a tract of land for $3,000, paying only SI,OOO down, and borrowing a part of that. They developed that l land, sold it off lor home sites, got options on adjoning land, and kept, on going until they had control of more than 4,000 acres. The result is what I , iis now known as Shaker Heights Village, a residential neighborhood of I large lots , sweeping roadways of great width, and beautiful homes. And of course they had abounding faith in and enthusuasm for their work and their various enterprises—so much enthusiasm that they didn't pinch pennies in developing their home site properties, but put in very wide streets, golf courses and such things at their own expense figurinf tin t money so spent would return in increased profits.
