Life Bldg., Kansas City, Mo. Looks Like A Real Fuss: That there is a merry scrap on .inside the state republican machine is evident in many ways. The Indianapolis Commercial in a long editorial jumpji on to Chairman Walb with both feet, saying jn part: ‘‘lt isn't hard to remember that Clyde Walb kept the chairs in the Governor's office pretty well covered during the period he was seeking to be appointed State chairman. He was indeed, very profuse in his appreciation and thanks for the faithfulness, loyalty and assistance that the governor gave him in selecting him state chairman, he was very ardent in the hope and belief that the friendship between the governor and himself would be a lasting one, and one that he would always remember. It is strange how soon after he attained his desire he forgot his ardent hope and his appreciation of what the Governor had done for him and with the prattle and ravings of a spoiled child demands his resignation. “It seems almost a sacrilege for Mr. Walb to speak of the “sacred ties of friendship.” A man who could abuse the loyalty and friendship that the governor has given to him is in no way fit nor able to judge what friendship should mean. The real friends of a man are those who give him a helping hand when he is in need. “According to Mr. Walb’s own reasoning and statement if the governor should heed his demand and resign. takfng with him his appointices, Mr. Walb himself should feel duty bound to resign too, because without the governor’s influence he could not have been appointed to the office he now occupies, but'does not fill. “As long as the a man until he is proved guilty it is exceptionally poor judgment for one without authority to demand the governor’s resignations. “The people of Indiamj put the governor in office and his resignation can only be demanded by them. It is presuming too much to think that the whole state of Indiana has selected Mr. Walb to act as its spokesman.” It begins to look as though Mr. Wall) had tackled a real lob in attempting to force Governor McCray from office. He has about made up his mind to wait until after Santa Claus has had his chance, hoping perhaps for some good results from the “peace on earth” period. McCray is standing pat and will try his best to make good on hia. statement that if he lives he will continue to serve as governor until his term expries a year from next n.jnth. The president in a special message leaves no doubt as to his position on the soldier's bonus. It will be interesting to watch just how the billions are spent and that as'much care ir taken to avoid a wastfr of money along other lines. Why not reduce tlie number oj swivel chair employe of the government while at it? Il wo are to become economy: finally there a>e many ways in which it can be done.
Congressman Elliot of the sixth In--1 dlana district has wired Republican Chairman Walb that the McCray affair is none of his business. Now that's a fine position for a congressman to take. None of his business indeed? In other words he doesn't care what the highest officer in the state does and he won’t take any chances expressing himself and thus losing a vote. If a lot of fellows would quit playing politics the state would be far bettori off. A bunch of liquor law violators at Savanah, Ga., were fined SIO,OOO each and sent to prison two years. If that dose don't cure them parmanently, it will at least, break things up temporarily.
