t quarrelsome attitude within the 5 ranks: j "The Fort Wayne News-Sentinel is t blaming the primary for what has s happened to Governor McCray. At I least that is about the only view , that can be taken of its present at-, titude, in view of the fact that prior to the revelation of the governor s 1 financial difficulties the News-Sentin- ’ el was a pretty consistent supporter of his policies. We do not recall that the News-Sentinel raised any serious complaint at the time of McCray’s nomination for the governorship; neither do we recall that the News-Sentinel congratulated the republicans of Indiana when, four yearn previous, they turned down McCray and chose James P. Goodrich us the party nominee for governor. In fact, McCray stood pretty well with the crowd' with which the News-Sentinel
trains until he got beyond his depth lin the financial whirlpool, and had misdirected judgment not laid him open tn the kicks of those who aided in making him u primary winner he| would still be the beau ideal of the thick and thin partisan press. To accuse the people of Indiana with being too Ignorant to choose their own public officials by popular refer-1 endum is going a long way in quest of an argument against the primary and the newspaper that resorts to this is not entitled to much public support. The News-Sentinel and the political breed it represents should have learned long before this that the people are through with gangcontrolled conventions, and efforts to bring them back into being is time wasted.’ 1 s—s—s—WANT ADS EARN—S-I—l s—s—s—WANT ADS EARN—S s—s ■ —
