R. & I, railroad crossing near Monroe, 'I yesterday evening, which resulted in I the painful death of Orin BaumgartJner, of Bluffton, and painful injuries ’ to Edgar Abbott, of this city, recalled i to the minds of many local people, | another fatal accident which occured not far from the scene of yesterday's 1 accident, on the evening of the firemen’s convention here ten years ago. August Girod, 49, a farmer residing ■ near Geneva, was ground to pieces , by a G. R. & I. passenger train just • north of the Monroe station. Girod . had attended the firemen’s conven- ■ tion in this city during the day and |
: boarded a special train to return home at 9:30 that evening. He was intoxicated and when he reached Monroe, he believed he had reached Geneva and alighted. Still believing he was in Geneva, he started to walk north on the tracks, the supposition was, and was resting or possibly sleeping on the railroad tracks when the passenger train came along about 3 o’clock in the morning. A whiskey bottle was sitting along the track near where his body was found. His i liody was mangled beyond recognition i and it was two days before his identity was established. s We received another shipment of Childrens half and three-quarter hose in all colors and sizes.
