DO YOU FAVOR NEW PHONE SERVICE: — The Citizens Telephone company are putting it square up to you as to whether or not you w ant a .new phone service .in Decatur. They have investigated carefully and have announced that ft" flic" people will meet the slight increase necessary to yield a fair return on the investment, they wilf give you the very latest and best service to be found anywhere in Indiana or any other state. To say the least, the company if approaching the matter in a fair and frank manner. They are telling you what they would like to do—give De catur, Berne and the rural patrons the very best telephone equipment in the world —and what tile small additional cost, will he to you. it's a simple business proposition and one you should answer one way or the other. We believe it means much to Adams county to have such telephone communication as r the directors announce they are ready to give you. Os course, there is a slightly increased cost, for no one can or will invest money without some return: but the members of this- company are home people who want to serve you and ■who will treat you fair. We hope the verdict is unanimously in their tavor. for no chain is stronger than its weakest link and the telephone is surely in this day of rapid business one of the links. Read the advertisement and the front page story it. this issue and then act. At least the company is entitled to that courtesy for they are putting it squarely up to you. Tho people of Adams county will assist John Isenbarger to give the biggest fair here in the middle west. That's tho kind of agricultural Clmutuuquas we are used to here and and the ne.v manager is splendidly qualified to continue the record heretofore established. Fair week is the annual outing for thousands of people and great benefits are derived from the event, not to mention the many happy hours in reunion with old friends. Boost for the Northern Indiana fair and help make it bigger in 1923 than eer—and that's going some. It's liard to understand Just how those trying to force through an additional appropriation of two million dollars l'or the Pcndloton reformatory adjust their ideas to a reduction of personal service money from which all salaries must be paid for other institutions in the Rtate. Really it’s a serious mixup and if not caroful will be the cause of another special session for after all the various institutions cannot operate without funds and it is well known that in most of them at least the overhead is now at u minimum.

These four little United States citizens, ranging in age from babyhood to boyhood, illustrate graphically the indifferent nurture and care given to the great majority of cur children. , America, the richest country on garth, today ranks last of the xatiuns advanced enough to have statistics on maternal mortality, being twentieth on the list. It ranks sixth in its infant mortality rate. Twenty thousand mothers and two hundred thousand babies, such as you see in this little boy’s arms, died here in 1920. And of all the babies v.-h) survive birth, barely seventeen o t of every hundred reach maturity io proper physical condition. Os tv oty-two million school children in America now at least six million are suffering from serious malnutrition, and urgently need medical attention, if they are not to grow up seriously hsrdicapped.
who in reply to Senator Harrison yesterday announced that the republican party coqld not repudiate the ; resident and if he is a candidate as cow seems probable he will have to stand for his own administration. This is perhaps correct but if the ship subsidy is forced through you can bet even that the president will change his mind and find a good excuse for retiring. The appropriation bill warmed up in the house today for a spurt that is expected to break all drag records. Ivreybody is divided on about everytliing and most of them arc keeping one eye squinted on the two million asked for the reformatory. It's going to be good.

The meeting scheduled for this week are part of a campaign to rid the country of noxious weeds which has been round in scattered patches. “In certain sections of the east, notably northern and western New York, the presence of the Canadian thistle has not only made profitable production of crops almost impossible hut has literally caused abandonment of many farms,” Repp said. “Years ago the thistle situation in these areas was similar to the present one in DeKalb county, namely the weed existed in scattered patches. The farmers paid little to these patches until they took entire fields. “Will history repeat itself in Indiana? We know that the pest in spreading rapidly in the Hoosier
