William Ehrman of Kirkland township was here on business this morning. o FLAVIUS SHEPHERD DEAD Hartford Township Farmer Died Early Sunday Morning Flavius Shepherd, farmer of Hartford township, died at his home two and a half miles southwest of -Linn Grove at two o’clock yesterday morning. Mr. Shepherd was well known in this county having lived in the vicinity of Linn Grove ever since he was eighteen years of age. Death was cause l<x hardening of the arteries. Mr. Shepherd had been ailing for a number of years, but his condii tion had not been serious until the I last ten days when he became worseThe deceased was born in Darke ' county, Ohio, on November 19, 1850, His age at the time of his death was > 73 y« ars, 2 months and 2 days. When still a young man he moved to this ' county. He was married to Miss Mary Ensley on October 20, 1893. Surviving Mr. Shepherd are his wife and two sons, Derling B. and Dewey, who are at home. Two sisters, Mrs. Charles Hartzel and Mrs. Anna Gilliom of Greenville. Ohio, also survive; also one grandchild. The funeral services were held at the home this afternoon at 2 o'clock. A son, Derling, has been sick for some time and was not able to attend a church funeral. Burial was made at the Greenwood cemetery near Linn Grove. State Fire Marshal Makes Inspection Here J — II Cash M. Graham, state fire mar,l shut made an inspection of the Decatur school buildings today and he reported to Superintendent M. F. Worthman that the buildings were all in fine shape. He complimented the janitors on thp fine manner in which the buildings were kept. Mr. Graham spoke to the pupils of the high school this afternoon.

Field Goals I Mayor George R. Daniels of Marlon was included in a list of several hundred basketball fans who were unable to get inside the Marion gym to witness the home town high school boys battle with the Logansport quintet last Saturday night. The mayor said. “I’m just a good fan, but no better than anyone else, and he proceeded to stand out in the ruin for an hour, hearing the results of the contest from a more lucky fan who occupied a seat upstairs near a window. Marion won, 28 to 16. Richmond is telling the world that their high school pets are strong contenders for the state title this year. Show 'em at the tournament, Richmond. Auburn, defeated Angola at Auburn Friday night. 24-17. These two teams are the next on the D. H. S. schedule. After playing Angola at Angola Friday night, we will have a line on the Auburn game here on February 2nd. i The Bluffton Legion team and the Hartford City Athletics go to Marion this evening to settle an argument over which has the better team. Each team won on their home floor and a neutral court was chosen for the third and deciding battle. Bluffton i fans are going over in a special car. I Peru high school is sure getting a rough initiation into the basketball world this season. Injunction Case Was Dismissed Last Week The injunction, suit brought last summer by John W. Parish against Charles Jones, trustee of Blue Creek township, to prevent the latter from erecting a new school building in District No. 4 of that township, was dismissed in the Allen superior court last Friday. The case was taken to the Allen county court on a change of venue. It was set for a hearing tomorrow, but was dismissed ttyon motion of the plaintiff. Soft Coal Wage Scale Agreement Is Reached New York, Jan. 23. —Agreement upon 1923 -soft coal wage scale was reached this afternoon by a committee of seventeen miners and operators meeting at the Pennsylvania hotel, Michael Gallagher, chairman, presided. The agreement will be presented to the full convention tomorrow morning for ratification. Its terms were kept sm ret but Gallagher seated there had been "no radical changes” from the contract for approval by the wage scale committee.
