Foreign Representatives Carpenter & Company, 122 Michigan Avenue, Chicago Klfth Avenue Bldg., New York City N. Y. Life Building, Kansas City, Mo.! The weather is a little snappy but if you don’t have it during the next \ month or six weeks when will you?; It's not so bad if you have plenty of fuel but if the coal pile is small to start with it’s sickening how much it | reduces in one day. A local hardware concern yesterday shipped a car load of nails to, Columbia City and another ear to Sturgis, Michigan. Signs point to a busy season. Os course this shipment is assurance that in those local ities, a lot of building will be done the coming year. They are getting ready for it everywhere. Why not organize here and build fifty or a hundred homes? We are reasonably sure they will be rented or sold quickly. It’s time to act. The Indiana state board of finances it now comes to light has been forced to borrow an additional half million dollars to make ends meet. The money being secured from the Fletcher American national bank at Indianapolis and this makes a total of 32.465.00 U on which the state must pay interest. Os this 3340,000 was borrowed from the Purdue fund. No wonder the leaders are trying to avoid making it financial statement to the legislature | in the face of the fact that ajjpropria-1 tions of millions are being asked. Senator Batt, democrat, has intro-' duced a bill for a new tax law, pro viding for a limit on levies, make levies of more than SIO,OOO reviewable by county council on petition, provides for a budget, places fixing of tax levies on legislature as form-' erly, takes away horizontal powers of tax board and aboloshes county assessor's office at expiration of term, i The law has some excellent features and some which will not meet approval I of all. At least it should cause some : discussion of a very important sub- ! jcct. Representative Gottschalk frightened the republican leaders out of their boots yesterday when he moved that the governor produce contracts for work done and contemplated on I the Pendleton prison. Two republicans I voted with the forty-eight democrats' and three refused to vote and motion carried. A dozen conferences were held last evening to determine just I how the refractory republicans could be lined up. The democrats will insist that the prison can lie completed I for less than a million dollars by using prisoners and if the desired approp-l riation of several million is secured the responsibility will be entirely that of the republicans. Good state institutions is one thing but spending millions unnecessary is another and a mighty important Ane. —'■SV Any one who buys whiskey anywhere in this country is taking chances with disease, blindness and death. The ' contraband trade is in the hands of '• men who cheat, steal, and kill. They represent huuumity ut its lowest level. . They are the most degraded lawbreakers ever known. FEW FOLKS HAVE GRAY HAIR NOW < Druggist Says Ladies Are Using Recipe of Sage Tea and Sulphur, Hair that loses its color and lustre, or when, it fades, turns gray, dull and lifeless, is caused by a lack of sulphur in the hair. Our grandmother made, up a mixture of Sage Tea and Sulphur to keep her locks dark and beautiful, and thousands of women and men who value that even color, that beautiful dark shade of hair which is so attractive, use only this old-time recipe. Nowadays we get this famous mixture improved by the addition of other ingredients by asking at any drug store for a bottle of “Wyeth's Sago and Sulphur Compound,” which darkens the hair so naturally, >so evenly, that nobody can possibly tell it' has been applied. You just dampen a sponge or soft brush with it and draw this through your hair, taking one small strand at a time. By morning the gray hair disappears; but what delights the ladies with Wyeth’s Sage and Sulphur Compound Is that, besides beautifully darkening the hair after a low applications, it also brings back the gloss and lustre and gives it an appearance of abundance.

The Farmer’s New Year Just as this bank has stood by the farmer when crops were poor, and while prices are so low, so it has resolved to go with him every step of the way through the new year. • We mean to do all within our power to help each farmer, who will use this bank, to benefit by the better times which seem to be just ahead.
