STEER FEEDERS 7 MAKE I ' < 'll Indiana Cattle Feeders Realize Average Profit > Os $9.04 Per Head 11 Among literature recently received at the county agents office are figures t showing that during the past winter I and summer Indiana cattle feeders I had left an average profit of $9 04 per hear, after all expenses for feed, la- ' her. shipping, interest, equipment, and 1 death losses, were deducted. The not profits ranged from $50.00 down to n 1 loss of $24.65 per head. This is an 1 entirely different story from the pre- ' ■ ■ding few years when cattle feeders, almost without, exception, lost heavily. ; The average cost of the feed per teer was $27.02. When all expenses * xcept feed were deducted from the Hill!’ price, the steers had left $36i "6 to pay for their feed, or they paid their owners $133.40 for every $100.00! worth of feed they received. The av-l erage sized drove was 39 head, to! which $1065.17 worth of feed was fed hmd on which a dear profit of $356.41! was made. ,
These figures were gathered by the! Farm Management Department of 1 I’urdue University in its study of 4454 I'lead of steers and cows fed out during the past year. The study was I I conducted In Carroll, Clinton. Decatur, Delaware. Henry and Tipton Counties and is being continued in the ■nine localities this year. 25 droves being enrolled at the present time. . • • Marion Mine Trial Swihgs Into Action — Marion, 111., Dec. 13—With a full! array of attorneys and counsel on hand, the Herrin massacre grand jury trial swung into action in circuit court here today.
