Heller entertained at dinner last evening for Miss Bertha Heller who was home from Indianapolis for a few days. The invited guests besides Miss Hel- , ler were, Mrs. D. D. Heller. The cold weather kept many at home but sixteen braved the cold and attended. A very enjoyable evening was had. The hostess wound up the evening by serving refreshments. ♦ Mrs. E. W. Lankenau entertained for her daughter, Miss Margaret, in honor of her sixteenth birthday witii a six o'clock dinner. Covers were laid for the Misses Katherine Hyland, Mabel Staley, Jeanette Clark, Mary Joe Yonk and Arvilla Hendricks. After the dinner the girls danced and later formed a theater party at the Cort. The Dutiful Daughters Class of the ; Evangelical church meets Thursday evening at 7:30 o'clock with Alta Smith. Chicago, Dee. 13. — (Special to Daily Democrat) —By a majority of more titan 700,000 Illinois voted yesterday against the proposed new state constitution according to practically complete returns today. The vote tabulated from 5,523 of the state's 5.656 precincts showed lor the new constitution 188,959 and against it 910,316. Every section of the state swamped the proposed draft. Cook county, including Chicago, rejected the new constitution by a vote of 35,828 for the amendment to 531,390 against it. Down state figures showed a majority of more than two to one against tho draft. o— Wilson And Colby Dissolve Partnership New York. Dec. 13.—New political activity by Woodrow Wilson was hinted here today when it was announced that the law partnership between the former president and Bainbridge Colby, former secretary of state, will be terminated December 31. “As a result of the steady gain in his (Wilson’s) health during the last few months, he is turning his energies once more to subjects which have long invited him and the importance of which cannot be overestimated,” an announcement by Colby said. The statement, combined witii tho fact that Wilson’s health has improved rapidly of late and his interest in the recent democratic victory, was regarded as highly significant by Bourbon and other political leaders. i J. !■'. Va„ Dec. 13—(Special to Daily Democrat)— Governors from many states were gathering here today for a conference on the vital domestic issues as the legislatures of many common wealths prepare to meet. Prohibition enforcement, activities of the Ku Klux Kian, government censorship of movies, business and agricultural conditions, were scheduled < for earnest discussion in three days meeting that opens tomorrow. President Harding brought the prohibition enforcement issue sharply to the governors’ attention when in his annual message to congress. December 8, he anonunced he would shortly convene the governors in an effort to coordinate state and federal enforcement measures. An unusually good attendance of governors was looked for.
