The savage caveman sought for an elixir of life to give him strength, endurance and physical power to resist disease. He grub bed and culled from nature medic- J Inal herbs and plants to relievo, and restore him in time of sickness—he found no elixir of life. But the savage and caveman of the past left to mankind his valu-1 able herb and plant discoveries. The cold wave is hard on the coal pile. How's your supply? Live in Wabash and you can sing the “Wabash Blues" on Sunday. Have you joined the Good Fellows club? The opportunity to help the needy children who might be forgotten by Claus is here and you cun help make Christmas happy for them if you give a dollar or two to the fund. Do it today. .-, .J One of the proposed bills which will be presented to the coming session of the legislature will be a bill to tax and regulate truck at*!'bits lines. To us this measure seems worthy of support. The bus lines do not pay any more towards keeping up the roads thau other trucks of its kind and the heavy loads ruin our roads as much as anything that pass over them. Governor McCray is also favoring a gasoline tax but this measure may not prove so popular.

DECATUR DAILY DEMOCRAT, TUESDAY, DECEMBER 12, 1922.
It is a very fine compliment to Thurman W. Gottschalk, of Berne, that no one else has been mentioned as floor leader for the democrats Ju the lower house of the coming session of the Indiana legislature. Mr. Gottschalk has had much legislative experience, this being his fourth term is well able to "carry on” for the democrats and Wells county takes pride, with Adams, in seeng him recognized so nicely.—Bluffton Banner. The eleventh annual campaign of the Holland St. Louis Sugar company is being brought to a close this week and by Friday the big factory will be silent, as far as operation of the machinery is concerned. During the past two months three hundred men have been given employment in the mill and the farmers have been paid several hundred thousand dollars for their beets. The Holland St. Louis Sugar company is one of the best institutions this community has and it should have the support and co-oper-ation of every citizen in Adams county. Besides giving employment to hundreds of men and making a profitable crop for the farmers, it is the largest local taxpayer in the county and that means that it is carrying its share of local burdens. The men connected with the management of the local plant are gentlemen of the highest class and they are also working for the best interests of the community, lending their support to good things and for the building up of local enterprises. Support them and always have a good word for the Holland St. Louis Sugar company. War saving stamps to the amount' of *625,000,000 will come due on the first of the year. The owners of these government obligations of small denomination will need to be on their guard to see that after holding them for five years the redemption proceeds do not slip through their fingers. There are more ways than one in which the small savings stamp lenders and their ready money may become parted on* and after New Year’s. The owners of these securities can, in the language of the day,, blow their money. They can put it into things that will not be exactly waste yet will not be entirely worth while. They can give it over to the tender mercies of some stock jobbing sharper who, as they cash in their savings stamps, will be lying in wait for them with an alluring tale of a get-rich-quick investment in gayly colored shares of stocks of no value. That will be the worst of all. The millions of wage earners who lent their small contributions to the government to help win the war and who went on adding their bit to the government savings stamp loans after the war did good service for their country and good business for themselves. They can continue their help to the government in its refinancing of its maturing loans and can do themselves another good turn by exchanging their maturing stamps through the banks and postoffices for new United States treasury saving certificates in which their money, still earning interest from the national government, will be in the safest investment in the world. That will be the best of all.—New York Herald. o — SHAME ON YOU GIRLS Some of our young women and girls seem to have a habit of lounging in the postoffice lobby on Sunday afternoons and evenings. Perhaps they figure that if they can get no mail they might at least attract a male. It sees at least some are getting more males than mail at the postoffice.
