It's “Cancer Week" and the physicians are working hard to make effective the means of preventing this dread disease that the fatalities may he decreased thirty per cent in the next decade. They should be supported. With the close political vote in the national and state legislative bodies and with a number of the highest class men in the country to represent the people, we believe better legislation will result, unless it Is blocked by the majority. The people seem to have awakened. The last general assembly of Indiana was about ninety per cent republican and they said it was unwieldly. Well the coming one won't be so lop-

sided. The democrats have eighteen senators out of fifty and at least an even break in the house. They may not control! it but they will cheek any * wild extravagances. r. - .----■.ar:, .' Three weeks until Thanksgiving , and seven weeks until Christmas. Tho people will buy frpm now on and they will seek the bargains through the ’ Dally Democrat. Merchants will inI crease their business by using these 1 columns with advertisements which I , tell your customers what you have ' to sell them. Even the Star newspapers are now proclaiming the good qualities of Samuel M. Ralston, it's easy after you win. Then you are showered with compliments and honors, but the poor defeated candidate is similar to the
pugilist who has fought his way to the top through many mills and then fin ally loses. Then the public declares he never could fight. Any way, it's two years until another election and the people will have a long rest. In the meantime, however, there will be congress and the legislature and the makings of the next campaign. If, as Mr. Adams, 1 chairman of the national republican committee declares, they go through with the Harding program, ship subsidy and all the trimmings and stand pat on the tariff —look out for a real democratic landslide. Our attention has been called to the fact that a number of motorists are negligent of the laws which require them to turn the corners squarely. Several near accidents have been re-

A word to the wise ought to be sufficient It Is not much more trouble to go a few feet farther and it’s much safer all the way around. Prosperity is promised by the heads of the big concerns and we sure hope it comes, but we would be more impressed if the prosperity was coming to the farmer and the laborer and the small business man. The big con cams will come along fine when gen eral conditions are better and when a foreign market is provided tor the surplus of this country and not before. The election is over now and congress should get busy at once on some of the things so badly needed to cause a real betterment of times.
Gee whiz —more excitement! The general assembly in Indiana is a tie. fifty democrats and fifty republicans—which should furnish enough scrapping to suit the most restless. Indiana legislative sessions are usually snappy, but with a tie vote it is quite probable that the fur will fly and for once we will probably get through without the passage of several hun dred silly measures. The democrats may not be able to do away with boards and commissions, but they can stop the creation of a lot of new ones, at least. W. N. Ferris, senator-elect of Michigan, has announced that his first official act will be to offer a resolution demanding an inquiry of the Newber-
■ ry election. The people of Michigan r evidently intend to clean thoir own . house, for that was the Issue in the • recent campaign and they have aelectI ed the right man to do it. Already ! Mr. Newberry has given out the statei ment that he will probably resign his office. The handwriting on the wall is plain and his "whitewashing'’ a few months ago has cost a dozen senators their seats In the senate. A boom for presiitent has been started by friends of Hon Satntiel M. Ralston, whose spectacular race against Albert J. Beveridge is now attracting nation wide attention. Gov ernor Ralston is recognized an a real man with ability and his splendid record as governor, no doubt aidod him in his resent contest. Defeating Mr Beveridge, recognized leader of orators and skilled in potitfcu, is enough to give any man a reputation, and coming as Mr. Ralston does from a pivotal state he has every qualification to lead his party tc a victory in 1924. - Solved the ProMem “1 was almost distracted with stomach trouble, gas and colic attacks and didn't know what to do.
